Hi,

I I am new to the game and have been having lessons and being practicing regular for next summer, when I hope to get my 1st handicap.

My question, is that now that I am getting more confident with swing I would like get some data on my carry distances on of my irons, but I have been looking for a Pro in the Bristol / North Somerset area who would be good with a beginner and has a Tracman / Flight Scope or similar who I could have lesson with, any recommendations, suggestions?

Equally wanting to lean I would welcome personal experience am I wasting my time with this?

Andy

Not at all and found a recent session really helpful - the numbers speak for themselves and when explained by the pro give you confidence in your technique and less likely to embrace quick fixes or tips from those you are playing with.

These monitors are great for getting the data from your swing but try (and it isn't easy) to get too bogged down on the numbers. Great for working out how far you average and seeing if there are significant gaps in your set up. Great too for looking at your swing as part of a lesson and so if you can use them regularly with pro advice then I'd say crack on

They have a flight scope at the hambrook range in North Bristol. They use it mainly for fitting clubs, but have a word and see if they'll do a lesson using it. They have about 6 attached pros doing lessons there.

I live in Portishead and use Tickenham golf club. They have a flight scope you can hire for £10 an hour and i use my i phone to collect the data. To be honest its only a little 9 hole club but they have a good driving range, putting green and practice bunker and Leigh and A.J the pros are really friendly .It offers subsidised lessons as well as it specialises itself in people just starting out. Very rarely busy so can always get out and play 9 holes in this weather. Some holes have mats this weather but no temp greens as well. I use the place quite a bit this time of year for 9 holes as its quiet and you can use a few balls to practice with.

£10 an hour, quality. That's a great tip thanks. Noted for future ref.

Ive got the flightscope skills app on my phone. Lets you set targets at different lengths, choose target size etc. Gives you something to aim for on the range. Will have to check when you want go use it at Tickenham though as its used a lot with lessons.
