Hello,

I have a free flightscope session booked for tomorrow morning to find out my club distances, and also to find out the gaps between 60 wedge SW and PW then buy a new wedge or two to fill the distance gaps :P but I am unsure what to do ball wise.

My uncle regularly gives me bags of balls that I split into practice and good balls so i don't play with the same ball all the time.

Would I be best taking as many of the same type of ball to work out distances?

i have 7 x Srixon AD333 should i take these or will the ball not make much of a difference at my level.

Cheers

Did mine with the ball I usually play with, seems the most logical answer surely. You only need 1 ball really, think it does good to get it back after each shot to break up the rhythm and make sure you reset yourself for each shot. Use whichever ball you use most often would be my recommendation

Cheers Fundy. I will just use one ball and take my time.
did it take you long to work out the distances?

use any balls you have, it really wont make much difference with 100 wedge shots with 100 variable swings.

Same applies thru the rest of the irons in the bag.

I'm assuming you are mid teen h/cap or higher? You will get an approximate, that's really all you need as on the course there are many variables to factor in after distance.

he's doing his whole bag, he'll need at least 5 strikes per iron to get a mean. He'll be there for hours!

5 good strikes per iron could take me ages. Got 3 hours before I start work though.
Handicap wise not got an official one but logged all my rounds since my come back 6 week ago on swingbyswing and it states 13.1

Think I hit 3 balls with each club, though any real mi***** were discarded and another one hit, didnt take me an hour to do the whole bag

Great to see the swear filter flags mis-hits (sans hyphen)! How appropriate for a golf one! It should do shanks, duffs, foozles and a few others too!

Flight-scope Gapping Session Complete.

Had the session, took about 25 mins as i only did a selection of clubs. Unfortunately it was with range balls and hitting them into the range. The session was free so cant complain, but was it pointless or should i add 10% to the distances as the Pro suggested.

Anyways the main reason i did this was to fill the gaps between PW - 60.

I tried a 48' Cleveland 588 RTX wedge this was awesome and hit it approx 110 yards.

19' Hybrid = 192

6 Iron = 172
7 iron = 164
8 Iron = 158
9 Iron = 149
PW = 135
48 W = 110 (£50 if i trade in an old wedge)
SW = 95

60 W = 65

The only question now is do i need to fill the gap between SW and 60. or would i benefit from dropping the 60 and putting in a 58.

No idea re clubhead speed but the guy told me it for my 6 iron and it was 82mph.

Feedback would be appreciated.
Cheers
Ryan

Are these carry yardages? Or total?

Re: Flight-scope Gapping Session Complete.

Some good numbers there! Get the Cleveland 48 great wedges IMO.
How often do you find yourself at 75/80 unsure how to play the shot should tell you wether 58 would be useful.

Re: Flight-scope Gapping Session Complete.

I did the same as you gaped my clubs with flight scope but using range balls, so what I did was take my 9i / 8i / 7i to a club's practice area and hit these with a few real balls and measured the distances. In my case I found the gaps consistent to the gapping with flight scope so I then adjusted the 9, 8 & 7 accordingly and using the gapping from the fight scope session adjusted the distances for the other clubs, has worked out alright for me. haven't done this for my wedges as I can hit these in the practice area and measure the distance back to my bag using a Laser

Usually a lot at the minute, since my come back i've not hit a driver or 3 wood from the Tee just a 5 iron, then usually a 6 iron for 2nd shot, so i'm regularly inside 75 yards for my 3rd shots.
