Got a golfing trip to Sweden coming up and need to get myself a flight bag. Anyone got any experience or recommendations of make, style etc?

No idea about what to go for or whether or not all or only some will take a normal carry bag? Do I need to be getting a pencil bag too?

Any comments/advice would be greatly appreciated,

Cheers,

I needed a bag to fit 2 stand bags in it. I found a Mizuno one 2nd hand on E-bay for £20 and it was fantastic. It has lots of padding, straps and wheels; therefore I don't think you can go wrong with Mizuno (however new ones are upwards of £70!)

I was given a Golfers Club flight bag for my birthday and used it to go to Portugal in January. When I collected the bag off the belt the stitching had come apart on the hood  On the return journey the stitching came apart on the base

Father-in-Laws 10 year old Taylor Made flight bag was still in perfect condition :D

Just a quick tip for travelling with clubs. Ask your pro for the sponges that hold the clubs heads when they are delivered from manufacturers. Your pro will normally have some lying around and they are great and help protect your clubs in transit.

I have a cheap golden bear one, it is junk, but so far my clubs have always arrived intact. That ssid, I pack them well.

The John Letters ones in Direct Golf look nice.

I would avoid big brands (Titleist imparticular). Can't see why you want to advertise expensive clubs to the baggage thieves.

I also have a Golden Bear one, about £40 from AG. Yes, it looks pretty cheap, bit it did the trick on a trip to Portugal the year before last. Trying packing a couple of towels around the heads of the clubs.

Mine has been to Florida about 4 times. I always pack a few towels round the heads, and also a cut off broom stick the length of my driver plus an inch, just to provide a bit of back bone.

Sorry to hijack the post, but does anyone know what the weight allowance for for golf clubs is with Easyjet? I have searched their website, but I'm buggered if I can find it.

12kg as of last week :D

Mine was 13.5kg coming back but they did not charge me.

I think it's £10 per KG over the 12.

What a good idea, why didn't I think of that?? I did wonder how the graphite shaft of the driver would stand up to a bit of manhandling. I'll know what to do next time. Cheers.

Well mine arrived this morning two days after ordering. Really nice piece of kit and will do the job brilliantly.
Felt really chuffed that I had found such a bargain.....until the wife told me I already had a flight bag tucked away in the loft...

Is it not max 32kgs for sports equipment.

The time it's taken me to find this!

Summarised: Paying the extra for sports equipment entitles you to a TOTAL hold allowance of 32 kg - this includes the 20 kg allowance for your bag(s). Therefore you don't save anything by off-loading from a suitcase into a golf bag.

Sporting equipment
Each passenger is allowed a maximum hold baggage weight of 50 Kgs including any sports equipment, subject to available space. The maximum weight for any single piece of baggage is 32 kgs.
An additional non-refundable fee is charged per item per flight for the carriage of the sporting equipment as set out in the table below:

Currency Per flight (pre-paid) (at the airport)
GBP 18.50 26.00
EUR 25.00 35.00

Payment of the additional fee increases your checked-in hold baggage allowance (including additional item) to a maximum weight of 32kgs.
Where your total checked-in hold baggage weighs more than 32Kgs, normal excess baggage charges as set out above (£10/kg or €12) shall apply in addition to the above fee.
