I have finally taken the plunge and been fitted.
I went to american golf in Exeter and was fitted by the pro[dave].After asking me a few questions about my game he
recommended the AP2,MIZUNO didnt ask which and the Ping i15s.The ap2 felt clunky and i had a dispersion of 25 yrds, the mizunos felt softer off the face with a dispersion of 17yrds,the i15s very nice off the face dispersion 9 yrds.I was surprised when he said my swing speed was 80 miles an hour as i thought it would be quicker. After sorting out the loft and lie i ended up purchasing the i15s green dot 5-pw £399.Pleased with my buy and hopefully they will help get my hp down.Bye bye to my burner xds

Congrats in the new toys, hope they go well for you... let us know.

Did he try multiple shaft or head options in the Mizuno or AP2?

No he didnt, and i asked him why he hadnt tried other shafts.I mentioned about trying a stiff shaft, but he said due to my swing speed i was definately a r/f shaft.Looking at the results on the moniter showed the i15s were longer and more of a consistent flight than the others, then we changed the loft and lies and hit some more shots, and the results were very good. Why do you ask and do you think it would have made much of a difference.

I agree that a stiff shaft is probably not the best starting point unless you have a quick tempo, but different R shafts vary in launch angle, spin rates and overall performance. Something like a KBS in R will feel (and possibly perform) very different to a TT DG R300. Likewise a Project X 5.0.

On the head, likewise the difference between a JPX800 and MP68 is pretty huge.

Don't get me wrong, the i15 is a good club and I am sure it will be a great club for you, but I do suspect AG of being more interested in selling stuff they have in stock than anything else.

I agree Ethan they could probably gone into it a bit deeper, and to be honest i did ask.As for selling what they had in stock,to be honest again they had loads of other clubs, and another point is they didnt have the clubs in stock so have to be ordered. My mate whos a 5 handicapper got fitted with the same clubs 2 wees ago,so perhaps they are ping pushers

Isnt it cool that he had the right irons for you in stock :D

Good luck with them fella. Can I add, AP2s are far from clunky compared to pings etc. I found them to be quite similar in many respects but chose titleist as they were available and felt the longer irons were a little more solid off the turf. But then that could just be me!

I'm never convinced by AG and their C/F never seems to feature too many shafts other than the stock R and S flex already in place. If I wanted a C/F set I'd definitely want a pro who could offer many more options or one of these bigger fitting centres (Silvermere, World of Golf etc)

Good luck to you Pal, the main point is your happy and the irons felt good in hand. I think at our level you can start to over complicate the issue by trying to many shafts options Lets face it a few years ago we would have had a very limited choice and I would bet there were just as many single fig handicappers.

Good luck with em

I am surprised at your swing speed PJ, and that you need regular shafts. Good luck with the new irons, you will no doubt mature into them. :D :D :D

Hahaaaaaaaa....
Another victim for ping....
Nice bats PJ.....I was all set to get them but my local golf shop but in all there infinate wisdom *&$%ed up the order on me so i took back my deposit and went elsewhere...

I then came across my Ping i10's for a steel at 200 euros and the first 2 rounds with them have been very positive...
I can actually hit my 4 and 5 irons straighter than my old cobra S2's for some strange reason...Might be the shafts...

Good luck with them. ;)

For all the pro and con talk about custom fitting at AG I'd say enjoy your new purchase, don't look back as you already know these are better than what you are using now.
