Oh my cod, seems I'm not the only one to visit them less.
Up to half could close.
Cod from the North Sea and potatoes from Lincolnshire helped us win the war.
Best place where I've sampled was Peterhead (straight off the trawler).
Worst place was Cleethorpes. Despite it's proximity to Grimsby, they didn't have any fish.
Most expensive was Devon and Cornwall.

The high cost of energy, oil doesn't get hot on its own, plus increased cost of foods mean that it is no longer a cheap tea, not that it has been for a while to be fair. It can not be a surprise that many will not survive. Still sad though, it's part of being British (says the Brit who may get chips once a year if that)

Fish and Chips haven’t been cheap for 20 years.

It's an occasional treat for me, but I can't remember the last time I got small cod, chips and mushy peas for less than £7. That said, it's still cheaper than a pint of cooking lager and a bag of peanuts.

I heard that ice cream vans will also vanish.
High cost of milk products and fuel. [not sure if I am happy or sad about that one]

I’m sure they will be fine. Their other products have a high enough margin.

It's still cheaper than almost any other takeaway you could pick up. Can easily get fish & chips for 13-14 quid whereas curry, Chinese whatever you'll be looking at £20 per person.

Jusus thats expensive , around here (Sheffield) you are looking at less than a tenner for decent fish and chips in fact i think its around the £8 mark.

I love fish and chips, in fact I've literally just polished off a portion for lunch.
We have a nice chippy at the bottom of the road, and I usually walk down at least once a week for my small cod and baby chips. Don't eat a lot of chips so I have half a portion. Costs me £6.30 each time, so not too bad and at least I'm getting a hot dinner whilst at work. McDonald's works out a tad more expensive, and isn't anywhere near as tasty.

Whilst the portion I get is only £6.30 it really is just a kiddies meal. A decent sized piece of cod or haddock is about £7.50 a pop, and a full portion of chips, (small), is £2.50.

Whitby or Filey are the two best places for fish and chips for me! Grimsby and Cleggy have always been decent for me as well! The chip shop up near Reflex has always been amazing in Cleethorpes.

Blimey I'd expect to be in a restaurant for £20 a head. That's crazy for a takeaway.

Most places don't charge different prices for taking away now like they used to.

Our curry houses locally (Gloucester) aren't over priced, and most have generous portions. Our go-to is a dish each for me and the wife, with one boiled rice and a plain naan to share - £22.30. So not too bad really.

When I first had Fish ‘n Chips the fish was 9d and Chips were 6d total 1/3d or 6p in new money.

It was also 1s/3d to sit over the wall watching a First Division Football Match. By comparison to Footie now it makes Fish n’ Chips “ cheap as chips” !
