Fish and chip shops closing

A cone of chips is £2.60 at a chippy near me. All of the other chip shops in the area have put their prices up to £1.60/£180.
I can't help but feel that many businesses are just jumping on the bandwagon and hiking prices over and above what they need to. Pure greed imo
The fact that the price of cooking oil/vegetable oil is one of the things that have shot up in recent times may explain things - at least in part.

Don't get me wrong, I can understand the increase. But not far off a 100% Increase from a year ago is scandalous. I just feel some people are taking advantage. A little like tradesmen during covid. My dad was quoted £400 to hang a door ?

Anyone remember the potato shortage in the early 70's? Portion of chips rocketed in price. They never came down again, did they

Small Cod is £7.70 and normal chips are £3.10. £10.80 x 4 =£43.20 is not cheap. We tend to do a battered jumbo sausage and chips instead which is more reasonable.

When up in Chesterfield last week I had a splendid fish supper (haddock of course) from the chippie on Chatsworth Road. £24 for a large haddock, two small cod and two small chips (plenty for three of us).
