Fish and chip shops closing

Most places don't charge different prices for taking away now like they used to.

Our curry houses locally (Gloucester) aren't over priced, and most have generous portions. Our go-to is a dish each for me and the wife, with one boiled rice and a plain naan to share - £22.30. So not too bad really.
In fairness we're normally using Deliveroo or JustEat which adds their cost. We tend to select whichever outlet has the 10% or 15% off that day to account for it. Last time I ordered the curry it was £41.43, that is including poppadoms, a starter of samosas, a side of saag, rice each and a naan. She won't accept anything less.

The Indian takeaway we use, heavenly food , charges me £7.00 for a Lamb Tikka Balta, £6.50 for lamb balti but it's worth the extra 50p. A naan, huge so shared, is £2.50. A pilau rice is £3.00, my wife will have this. So, based on my wifes being the same price, it is £19.50 for 2 people, plus a guarantee that you will be so wonderfully stuffed that you can not move for 2-3 hours and sleep will take even longer :ROFLMAO:. Worth every painful moment.

It's an occasional treat for me, but I can't remember the last time I got small cod, chips and mushy peas for less than £7. That said, it's still cheaper than a pint of cooking lager and a bag of peanuts.

Depends where you're buying your pint and peanuts.

We were in Norfolk last week. On the front at Great Yarmouth it was between £8-£10 for fish and chips. Nearly £50 for f&c plus a can of pop each for us 4!!

We stopped in Ullapool after a day’s fishing in Kinkochbervie about 5 years ago and we were £15 a head, in fairness it was massive portions, but even so.

I remember visiting Ullapool in the mid 1970's as a child on a family day out.

We arrived in Ullapool shortly before lunch, to find the only chip shop in town was on fire!!!!

Hoaching all the time now Nick with the North Coast 500.
The prices in the restaurants / takeaways reflect this now.

If we have Indian we always eat out.
I don’t think the takeaway travels well.
Plus I like to take my time with the poppadoms & pickle tray & a couple of pints of Cobra ?.
It’s the beers that knock the price up tho at a fiver a pop.

Sadly we do not have a particularly good Indian restaurant near to where I live, the takeaway we use is only a takeaway and better by a long way. Now if only I could get the lovely husband and wife who run it to open a restaurant...............

(There is some magical about poppadoms and the tray, wonderful stuff)

We are going to be in Weymouth next week, and Fish and Chips at Marlboro's are on my to do list. Apparently, based on a friend from weymouth, that's the best place worldwide. Been there about 7 years ago and it was good then.

Otherwise we don't do fish and chips a lot. Our local used to have queues outside, now they only have them on national fish and chips day. They also took the word quality out of their name. I think there was an owner change.

We’re spoilt for choice with nice Indian restaurants.
Half a dozen within 4mile ?
Sorry ?

Inverness is pretty poor when it comes to F&C. Not one decent place imo. One in Ullapool is decent as Brian says, other one there was poor. Can't remember the last time I had a fish supper takeaway. Best place I've ever been was two brothers in East finchley, site down and take away, skate middle out of this world.

For me, Indian is the one takeaway that tastes almost as good at home as it does in the restaurant......bar the nann bread, by the time you get those back in their little silver envelopes they've steamed and I have to bung them in the oven. I do like a Chinese however don't have the time to get to a restaurant and by the time a takeaway is delivered the 'crispy' items are anything but.

Yeah Naan is the worst bit when it’s sweated.

Got a lovely little Chinese near us, they offer the old "eat as much as you like" jobbie. Nothing too flash, you wouldn't go there to propose or celebrate a wedding anniversary but the food is really tasty, as everything is cooked fresh to order. Any amount of starters you want, I normally go overboard on the ribs in capital sauce and butterflied king prawns. Cushty. Follow up with the old pancakes and crispy duck, and finished off with any number of main courses you want. Small dishes of each though, otherwise too much goes to waste. A really, really good blow out for about £15.00 or so. Yum yum.
