Hi guys, i have finally taken the plunge and joined my nearest club, Muswell Hill

I have my play-in this weekend and i'm very excited about earning my first official handicap.

What does everyone on here enjoy most at their club? is it the competitive golf, the practice facilities, the social aspect?

i guess it varies for different age groups but i am slightly concerned that working full time will mean i wont be able to make the most of the medals and other goings on.

Congrats on joining the club and good luck with getting the h/cap.

In terms of the things I enjoy most about being a member, first and foremost it's great to be able to play whenever I want (pretty much). It's nice to nip up for a quick 9 holes of a summer evening, for example. The competitive golf is a big draw too. And the course at my club is great and usually in good nick, which makes a difference.

I'm less bothered about the social aspect but it is nice to go up to the club for lunch with HID and my my little girl. My club is very welcoming and the staff are great with my daughter. The view from the clubhouse is brilliant, too :)

But the other thing that I really enjoy is having access to the club pro. I know you can go and get a lesson from a pro anywhere at any time but it's great to be able to build a relationship with the club pro and to be able to ask questions, or get little bits of advice from him when you're there. A good club pro is one of the big attractions of joining a club, for me.

Today sums up everything good with our club. Was one of the well known members 50th birthday and he managed to combine the seniors roll up, a womens comp and a roll up into one big comp with a few friendly prizes, everyone welcome, some food and some good fun to boot

Didn't realise Alex was that old Steve.....

As said above. . . Just get stuck in, don't worry about playing with people you don't know cos in no time you'll know loads of people. Most importantly don't worry about your handicap. It's nice to get one but don't let it ruin your enjoyment of the game. I've seen it happen to others.

The great thing about membership at most clubs is that there is usually a game available. Most have regular swindles/greedies etc which are good fun. Add in regular competitions to get that handicap nice and low, club matches (competitive and social) access to practice facilities (at some) and a great atmosphere in the 19th and you know it makes sense
