This has never happened to me before. Played as a guest in an open 4BBB on Thursday. On the 16th the shot to the green is long & blind. I hit my shot & it went well left & I heard it clatter into a tree. When we got down there it couldn't be found. After around 5 minutes my partner & one FC went on to putt out while the other two of us continued searching. Suddenly, my FC ducked as a ball landed not far from him. We assumed the fourball behind us hadn't realised the green wasn't clear. We moved out of the way and when the pair came off the green my partner looked at the ball we'd seen land & pointed out that it was mine. It had fallen out of the tree over 5 minutes after we had started looking for it!

What would have been more annoying would have been if it had been found within the 5 minutes but not identified by me until later. Cost us one or, possibly two, points. Never seen this happen in 57 years of golf.
