Never played in a medal before and with a few decent rounds under my belt I was really looking forward to it.

Well the big day finally arrived and I woke up feeling truly awful. Aching, sneezing, headache, nose running etc - you get the picture.

Them my mate called and bailed on me - lame excuse of a engagement do ...tee off too late to make it .....

Then there rain hit and the high wind - all in all I felt a bit like it was all against me.

Turned up and got put with 2 regulars - one an 8 H/C and one a 12 H/C (no pressure there then) and to add to the vibe one of the guys is also on the H/C committee. Great pair of guys but by this time I was looking like a rabbit in the headlights.

A bad start which included 2 eights in the first 5 holes - now bear in mind that I have not had an eight in about 5 months and you can probably understand how I was feeling at that point.

Then something clicked and I started hitting them sweet. In fact very sweet. From that point on I think I had par or bogey on everything - SI 1, 3, 6 ect.

Finished it off ok and handed the card in only to find I had won my division

:D :D :D

Even better than that I think I may have had the lowest nett score of the day

I am told that there will be at least 2 off my handicap so.......... RESULT

I am soooooo pleased I stuck with it

Well done. Perseverance is a gr8 thing when you think it's all falling in around you.

Keep it going.

Andy

Perhaps you can help the clown I got stuck with in a medal yesterday. Playing off 22 but he must have bought that at Tescos, he shot 117 gross including a pair of 12s. Duffed chips, air shots the lot. But he insisted on checking his Sky caddie for the yardage before every damn shot.

Totally screwed up the round for myself and another 6-handicapper in the group.

Isn't that part of the skill? Being able to block it out and play your own game?
Friday I had Fragger hitting it sideways - I see he still hasn't posted (Bottler!)- but I didn't let it affect me. It's hard but then so's Golf.

Well done HS. I had a 7 on the first par4) once in a Medal and went on to win it. Just got to keep going.
Good Shooting.

Fantastic news buddy! Man I miss that course, I cannot wait to play it on the 29th.

I really love the 13-18 stretch. All beautiful holes!

The front nine has some real tough holes IMO, the first and 7th are both very tricky.

Well done. That's what medal play is all about. Any player will have some bad holes and hit some bad shots. Sometimes at the beginning, middle or end (frustrating) of a round. Sometimes there are just too many of them, usually described as "playing crap" :D. Sometimes there are less and you score well. Sounds like you have a good attitude to all that which will help enormously in medals and should see your h/cap continue to drop.

Forgot to say that most times here in Medal 3-4, nett, under is a very good score and 9 times out of 10 win you the comp.

Well yesterday guy off 22 shot nett 63 including 2 penalty shots and still didn't win as another guy off 21 shot a nett 62 , sheesh

Well played HS!
I agree with Imurg! In medal rounds it's about your game. We have all had bad days on the course and am sure he was more angry than you !!!

Thanks guys.

Found out I have money in the Pro shop account now also and an entry into a medal winners only comp later in the year - still stunned that I managed it to be honest so these are a unexpected bonus.

It shows me that you gotta keep trying and just put the bad holes behind you if you can.

I forgot to mention I was on performance enhancing drugs - Lemsip :D

Very well done HS. First of many hopefully :)

It never ceases to amaze me how many people give up after a few bad holes.

Well done you for not giving up.
