For once I have done, I think the sensible thing and booked a set of lessons.

Been struggling over the last 6 weeks or so with my approach shots over 180yards as I now seem unable to hit a hybrid or fairway wood or a long iron. I stand there club in hand and have no idea where it might go (hit 3 balls OB yesterday on one hole all in different direction)

So booked lessons..but now need some advice.. I am happy -ish with my iron play from 150 fairly consistent and my driving is again fairly consistent so should I ask to focus totally on approach shots or give them carte blanche to start from scratch.. I hate practicing on a range would rather play so a bit worried if everything gets dismantled.

Tell the pro what YOU want from the lessons. So if your priority is working through the issues with the hybrid and fairway woods then start there. Not the time of year to be dismantling a swing and he'll appreciate that so hopefully some minor tweaks, plemty of practice and build some confidence and a relationship with your pro before moving on to major changes if they're required.

Remember it's all about what you need and the reason you booked lessons and are paying him :-)

I would explain the issue but also be open to critique on your swing full stop. It may well be sound and something changes with the longer clubs but chances are its probably a swing flaw for all the irons you just can get away with it with the shorter irons.

Above all else embrace any changes regardless how simple or severe
