Hi, got my first lesson today, been playing for about a year now and averaging about 100 per round and not improving any so decided to bite the bullet and get lessons. Thought I would manage to do it all myself and learn from books etc but far too much info! Lol. Wish me luck! :-)

Getting lessons will be one of the best decisions you make in trying to master this wonderful game. The one thing you will find is that at each stepping stone through your lessons, as the pro gets you to do things the correct way, it will feel like one step back as you process the new way of doing things, but then it will click and it will be two steps forward and that process will repeat as the pro changes things.

Persevere through the steps back as the steps forward are a really great feeling and just make you want to learn more.

I had a lesson about a month ago and it has brought my score down from 120 to 106. I had another one on Sunday and he taught me how to use a driver, I need to get used to this but i reckon I will be under 100 within a couple of weeks.

Yeah you got to be patient... last year I was shooting mid or high 80's with a few very low 80's and waiting to shoot my first ever 70 something.

This year I've been through a series of lessons to change my 'over the top' slicey swing and so far it's been 100's, 90's and one round in the 80's - it's really frustrating but I know that in the long term I will be a much better player because of it.

Well thats what the pro tells me anyway :|

after playing for a year the chances are you have ingrained 1 or 2 bad habits it will possibly take a little while and a bit of practice to master any changes the pro makes but it will be worth the backward step to go forward 2/3 after a bit of work. Good luck.

just had my 2nd lesson, really struggling with it,but as someone else said, need to stick with it,

Absolutely stick with it. Took me 3 lessons to see any sign of improvement but i am hitting some lovely shots now 2 months down the line.

Well first lesson went well, he sorted out my stance and posture for a start and took some before and after pics! Looked like the hunchback o notredame in the first one! Lol started hitting the ball better already! Got to practice now as next lesson in a fortnight where other issues will be adressed! Defo reccomend lessons to any newish starters as I thought I wouldn't need but like I say I've improved already!

You have to be prepared to put some time and effort into working on the drills and practising what you've been shown otherwise it's a waste of time in my humble opinion. It will feel weird, you will get worse and you will be tempted to go back to old habits. DON'T. Trust the guy, make the effort and bit by bit he'll give you something that is reliable (as much as they can be) and built on strong fundamentals

Lessons are defo the way forward, you will be taught things which seem alien to you and you will be tempted to go back to the old ways just so you can hit the ball, DON'T the teaching pro is giving you the drills as building blocks, where upon lesson on lesson they build off each other and before you know it you have a quality swing and are hitting the ball further than you ever did.

The only thing you have to do is be prepared to put in the practice.
