Not be able to hit the ball in the morning comp! Im using the winter to improve my game ready for the new season in march by booking 6 lessons. I play Off 18 and Am totally self taught! The pro had some good things to say, and said i need to adjust A few things, but it feels so different! I'm going to trust my pro and hope I hit a few good shots tomorrow! So many things to remember!

I have the same problem, but have to play to ten. At least you have more shots.

I went to the indoor nets today for a half hour of practice. Given that I can only judge the first 6 ft of travel, it seemed to be going ok. Need nice relaxed hands though, which is hard with a new swing.

Good luck tomorrow.

Trust your pro and don't make the mistake of thinking it's not working straight away so giving up on the advice given. It can mean a backward step until you get used to the changes but stick with it and keep practicing what he's told you to do.

Good luck in the comp - commit to the changes and don't get too hung up on the score (easy said)!!

Don't worry, I played the day after my first lesson years ago and played really well, it was the months that followed that were rubbish :D

What you have to do is remember why you are having lessons, it will be tough and you will hit a lot of rubbish shots but it will be worth it in the end so stick with it

Boy are those words going to haunt you about 9.00am tomorrow. Actually apart from a few shanks early doors I hit the ball encouragingly well after yesterdays lesson. Of course we all know the difference between range and course and fun game and match but definitely feels better and easier. Hopefully it'll click and I'l be able to provide some sterling support to you

I have started to try and practice as much as possible for a couple of weeks after a lesson and not bothered with comps. But it depends how much of a change is made. I found the bigger the change the worse I would play on course. So you need to go out and just think to yourself that with each shot played you are looking to achieve the change in your swing. Just try and forget the fact you are in a comp, and don't worry about scores.

Thanks guys, I'm not bothered about a score in the comp, like you say I'm just using the time to try these new things on the course. Fingers crossed!

Comp was off today, flooded! So went to the driving range to work on new grip/posture etc and Oh My God, I couldn't hit a beach ball let alone a golf ball. Shank after shank after top after pull!!!! Bought 150 balls got to 50 and was really demoralised! I perciviered with the next 50 and put the last 50 balls back! 3rd finger on my right hand was sore, swing feels like im reaching for the ball and uncomfortable but that the pro showed me due to my right leg getting in the way of the beginning of my swing.
I think I expected to hit the ball well immediately but it felt like I had no distance on every shot, but I stuck with the new routine and grip and posture. Just hope my game comes back.

I'm sure others will agree mate but it's quite normal. Your heads telling your body to swing a certain way but your natural muscle memory wants to swing the old way. Keep practicing and ensure that you are doing just as your pro instructed and soon enough you will have retrained your muscles to swing the new way.

It does take a while for the muscles to get used to it, if it feels strange then the chances are your doing what you were told by the pro right

Cheers for the reassurance guys, I know it's a tricky thing and I trust what I've been told. I'll get up to the range again in a few days, keep going through to routine in my head and have another lesson next week.

Make sure you ask your pro to give you a couple of simple drills that will help you ingrain the new parts of the swing you are working on.

I had a bit of a rebuild a couple of years back and had simple drills to help me at the range, worked out well, as long as i put in the practise time.

So make your practise quality not quantity and you'll get along fine with the changes.
