overall ive got a pretty decent swing, nothing major wrong with it just a few minor issues that need work,

we changed my grip ever so slightly a little weaker now and my right ring finger sits against my left index finger and not ontop

moved the ball forward slightly in my stance

use legs and hips to start down swing to shift weight better

shorten back swing and slow down a little

i thought my alignment would be all wrong but its fine, and seen some success in the lesson with what i was asked,

main reason im pushing left is because im turning my wrists over to soon,

so that was my first lesson, cpl weeks practising alot on these points and book another!

went out for my round to get my 3rd card for handicap and played the worse i have done in a few weeks 123 :'(

so three cards 106, 113 and 123 par 69 sss 68

Always happens Richie! It's worth the short term setbacks after a lesson though to know you're on the right track with a pro.

Did he tell you to use less Nike gear and get some proper clubs? :D :p

If there's nothing major wrong with your swing, sounds like you need to get out and practice the short game more to get your scores down.

having a nice swing and being a good golfer are very often two totally unrelated things!

short game yes, i suck, quite a few nightmares today, indesiveness, un committed to the shot. duffed alot

example long 233yd par 3 2nd shot puts me 8yards off the front right green in 2nd cut, small mound in front of me, flag at the front of the green, up and down for 4? took 5 and scored a 7, that happened a fair bit today :'(

Oh that would be the 17th, Short right, near the bunker?

If the pin is cut at the front, its usually an easyish pin. anywhewre on the left, thats a nightmare.

Just belt your 3 wood, or driver off the tee. Anything right is usually fine aslong as your not short in the tree's. If you hit it well and it rolls out, the hump at the back usually stops the ball hitting the 14th green.

yeah the 17th royally fecked it up, just like many other holes once i got 20yds in :(

Go to the short game area and just spend an hour.

Upton has a great short game area and putting green. Plus between the 7th and 12th there is a 150 practice strip/green you can use too. Or if you want to practice long game you are allowed to use the 5th fairway.

Short game, short game, short game..... and putting. Get those working well and an off day ball striking wise can still be a good scoring day. Sounds like all the basics are in place so work hard over the winter, get to the short game area and see the handicap tumble next year

Might be worth a short game lesson.

For my first 6 months (at the range) i did nothing but hit my sand, pitch and 9 iron to groove a swing in.

I didnt even play a game 9 holes on a crap course for those 6 months, just short game :)

this winter im going to stacking up on lessons, ready for next years summer season,

really want to sort out my irons first then onto short game, as i feel the more i play the better my short game will be through course management and learning the shots as i go, and putting in the time at the practice greens bump and runs and chips

Im off for more lessons this winter too :)

Perhaps what I meant was the short irons as opposed to short game. Most of your shots should be from 150 yds and in which is a 9 iron and less for me Upton isnt the longest course but you have to be accurate with your wedges, apart from that 17th which is pretty long!!

Make sure you have a good warmup routine too, few wedge shots, 9 ironn, 7 iron etc. Dont just get ya driver and try to smash it :)
