Initial handicap confirmed today. Joined the club just before Christmas. Played in 3 roll ups to submit my cards, one of which was on frozen greens so quite tough.

Not had an official handicap before - was only a member at another club for the last year or so.

In the last 2 roll ups they put me off 18, which I felt was fair (as I scored 36 pts in both) and played to 17 the time before. Had looked online at the CONGU website/formula and reckoned on 16 after adjusting for a couple double bogeys in my best round.

Anyway, really surprised that I was confirmed at 14! Not sure how that was calculated but am chuffed, feel like a proper golfer now :)

Although think staying there might be a challenge as 87 is my best score in the short time I have been a member!

Well done mate, solid starting point, they will usually cut you in a little lower than you expect to stop banditry. Better to start you lower and let you go up rather than start you high and have you winning every medal for the first 2 months of the season.

Cheers for all the comments guys.

Like I said, am really pleased as I want to improve and this has already gone some way to justifying practice and lessons over the past year. I have played in Society's and socially for about 10 years but was around 18, so have certainly progressed these last few months.
