ok, so im obviously new to playing golf, i have played 2 rounds round Bath GC now, shooting 102 then 89(after i sorted my drive/overall wrist rotation), been in contact with some of the guys from the club, now i have been asked to play with a group on sunday! AHHH, suddenly my heart beat increases reading the email and palms get sweaty, dreading embarrassing myself!!! NOOOOOO
everyone felt like this yes??!! PLEASE SAY YES!!!!

Everyone goes through this, even people who have been playing for a long time. You worry about the other players being better than you and laughing at you. I've seen countless times where big hitters and low handicappers spoon it or top it off the first tee.

My adive, if you are feeling shakey, don't go driver, go with a long iron or hybrid, hit a nice controlled shot down the middle, yes you end up short but you would have hit a nice confidence shot, then play your game.

It gets easier after the first hole.

Just take a wood or a rescue off the first which is all you need at bath's 1st. Just avoid the bunkers on the 1st and you'll be fine!

to be honest, im really not that nervous about pulling my driver out as that seems to the the strong point of my game. where im losing all my shots is getting from where the ball lands from the tee to getting it in the hole!!! not know my distances for each club is a big factor and my ability to be able to get good contact with the ball everytime of the ground is a weakness!!

If you are fine to get your driver out on the 1st @ Sham then you have no nerves!!!! :D

It's a 5 or 6iron and wedge on all day long for me.

In fact, I've gone a bit dizzy thinking about hitting driver up there!! :D ;)

Just pat them their arses as you get on the tee, they'll think you are so strange they won't notice you shaking with nerves. :o :D

All I can say is try to enjoy it. If you shot 89 on your second round you must have something about you.

I've played a zillion rounds of golf and still got nervous playing my first round at Royal Ascot earlier this year. Once the first shot is out of the way you'll be fine.

well when i shot my 89, i drove it to where the slope goes upto the green, chipped up to the back of the green and 3 putted for bogey!
haha, i like that, might just try the little pat, subtle enough for them to think 'did he just pat my arse?!?!'

Everyone gets nervous. I still do especially in competitions and would be worried if I didn't. A little nervouse enrgy is good as long as you don't let it get on top of you. Relax and play your own game and you'll be fine. They've obviously seen something they like to invite you in the first place. Go out and enjoy and relax about it

yeah, EASY MONEY!!haha

LEAVE THE DRIVER IN THE BAG OFF THE 1ST WHATEVER YOU DO !!!!

As others have said take a 4/5 iron over the right hand bunker with a touch of draw and that puts you in the perfect spot. Too far left off the tee and you're half way into Bath, too far right and you're in the clag between the 1st and the 18th :D :D

Just enjoy it matey.

UP1.

I went to the driving range a good few times before hitting the golf course and had a note pad where I marked the distance of my shots. This improved through time but the big advantage was it taught me to read distance and pick a club to match. I still have the note pad, albeit a little better reading these days.

You say you were in contact with guys in the club well im sure you told them you were new to the game & they still invited you to play this weekend .. says they are nice guys . no mater how long you play your always going to play your fair share of bad shots . key is to stay in your own game..dont try match other players shots .. go out and enjoy your round the nerves are natrual .. playing at forum meet in donegal in june & im nervous already ha ha ..good luck & let us know how you get on..
