Going for a set of irons. I am trying to go with an open mind although I do have a budget, hence its going to be limited to a 5/6 sets.

Heres hoping I dont swing like a donkey :fore:

make sure you hit 4 6 and maybe a 9 iron . although i would say the long irons are the most important to get right

and the hardest to get a shot of? most places have a 6 or 7 iron for you to 'test', occasionally they tape up something else but that deadens the feel/sound and results

Sorry guys my phone is in the middle of switching over from Orange to Tesco so unfortunately no twitter.

The winner is Ping I20 4-sw 1deg upright which is Blue? Lightweight stiff shaft and a slightly smaller grip.

The fitters name was Jon, absolute gentleman. He gave me a basket of balls asked me to warm up and left me to it for ten minutes.

Started with my own clubs, took some numbers on the laptop and the first thing Jon said to me was the shaft is all wrong for you. Going by the numbers I was producing he just grabbed something and started fitting a clubhead to it.

I started on the I25 with a 7 iron and I have to say the ball flight is absolutely superb and I immediately gained 9 yards with the shaft change from Reg on my 710's to the stiffer shaft and also got a much tighter dispersion. Moved from them onto the Mizuno EZ forged which I must admit was a little disappointing. 7 yards shorter with a 6 Iron, dispersion was a lot worse and if im honest I just didnt like the feel or look of them.

Then we tried the JPX825 pro, lovely looking club I hit it really well but again the distance just wasnt there and going by the numbers I couldnt justify the upgrade over my 710's. The dispersion was okay but just not enough of a gain to justify the expense. I think I tried the rocketblades tour before Jon handed me another club which I assumed was the I25 again and asked me to hit a few more. (By this time I am absolutely knackered back and arms are aching and im starting to regret the Bacon and Egg mcmuffin I had on the way down.) After the 3rd shot all of which were coming right out of the middle and center hits on the board Jon turned to me and said I think weve found the club for you. Thats when I looked at the club and saw it was the I20.

When I asked about the difference in numbers there wasnt anything of note yardages were basically the same 153 into a slight wind with range balls, dispersion was very very similar I was a happy man.

I can not praise the fitter highly enough, I didnt feel pushed towards anything I felt 100% comfortable and as though I was incharge of what was happening. I genuinely had the feeling that if I wanted to try something else he was perfectly happy to continue with the session. While he went to check on the price I continued to hit a few balls and just fell in love with the ball flight, the only downside is they wont be ready until around February the 11th.

Hesnol Golf Academy/Golfbuyitonline have a customer for life as far as im concerned.

nice club the i20, even tried it myself for 2 weeks, decent sound that doesnt feel or sound like cast, also the 3 and 4 iron are just ridiculously easy to hit it felt like cheating! only thing I couldn't stay with was the offset which is too much for me so they had to go.

Good luck with the new bats when they arrive

Lovely write up. I'm still a fan of C/F despite the adventures with my G25's and to be honest I simply dived in too soon and should have got the swing as solid as it is now. Got to love the power the lure of new can have. Hit the I20's last week and still love them but need to hit the I25's as well. So tempted to go to Ping HQ and then tag on a game at Woodhull Spa

Finally arrived!
