I played my first ever medal comp today!

It's also only the second time I've played 18 holes!

I'm a member at a 9 hole course and play off 27. Par for the course is 33.

I'm came of the 18th (well 9th for a second time) with a 92, net 1 under par!!

Pretty happy with that but still left shots out there so I'm also thinking to could have been a sub-90 score but for some silly moments! Still, there's always next month and hopefully a cut on the handicap on the way!

Myerscough College - it's an academy course for the college that offers memberships too. The pro there is moving things along nicely and getting more comps organised.

That said, seeing the way some of the students hit the ball - taking an iron off the tee when I'm grabbing a driver - is somewhat humbling. :-)

I've only ever played rounds once at the course but played 18 while on holiday in Spain - 113 there, might have helped if I realised before the 14th that the course distances were indicated in metres and not yards!!!

I've had a knock round there, just played 9 with the in-law, its a nice little 9-holer. I'd suggest playing an 18 hole course soon though just to see how you get on.

I don't know the layout of the course you play on but my advice would be to find a pay and play and get a few rounds in on a full length track. In the meantime be pleased you played under the handicap and I'm sure you'll break the magic number soon

@4_Putt_Specialist,

The Garstang course is nearby too and is an 18 hole course. My only problem is the physical - my knees were very sore last night and while better this morning they still aren't great! It's a problem I've always had and it stopped my playing football at 30. Sadly, I'm only 35 now!!!

Mind you, my knees used to hurt after 9 and now they don't for the most part - perhaps I need to slowly build to 18 by playing a few extra holes at my home course.
