First competitive round with my new handicap..

And it didn't go too badly at all. A strong, gusty wind didn't help. Nor did Fragger mentioning, while I was lining up my Tee shot on the dangerous 4th, that the iPhone 5 was in fact the iPhone 4S - WTF...???

A 2 over par front 9 accumulated 19 points - very happy. But not winning. CVG managed 21!

Onto the back 9 and the wind seemed stronger. A poor drive on the 10th saw me in the clag. A hack and a duffed chip later and I'd blobbed. But I clawed points back at the 13th, a par 5 of just short of 500 yards.
One horrific snaphook into waist high clag was followed by the provisional to almost the same place. Disaster. But... the first was found sitting reasonably which meant I could get it out to the fairway. Still 230 yards out but slightly downwind, I creamed my hybrid and the ball settled 10 feet behind the hole. Sunk it for the birdie to repair the damage.
Played solidly till the last hole where a blocked drive was lost, but the provisional ball got on the green in 4 with a putt for a point. It just slipped by to record another double bogey blob.
Still, 16 points back with 2 blobs gave me 35, a number I'd have taken on the first tee.
CVG played well for 39 points and will get cut back to 13 and Fragger, well, Fragger was Fragger. Moments of inspiration surrounded by hours of desparation.....

Nice to play at least near my handicap in a comp. If I hadn't been cut I would beaten CVG on countback...

Not sure many would have bettered my gross 76 today, some holes were extremely tough.

Definitely a game of 2 games today, down wind and into it at ours today. Was through the back of the first with a hybrid and a wedge but hit my best 2 shots possible on 9 and was still 40 yards short!!, expect your conditions were similar!!!

We only have a couple of holes that are up or down wind, most are across and if it's gusting that makes it even more tricky. But 76 with 2 doubles - I can take that first time as a Cat 1.
In the variable hands of my best friend CSS to see whether I go up or buffer. I suspect CSS may go up a shot but not holding my breath....

Hard to believe CSS wont go up based on todays conditions.

Just thinking about ours, I think 13 or 14 holes play into or down wind and only 4 or 5 really as across the wind. That said, controlling the ball downwind was nigh on impossible today too!

We should get a game sorted, be nice to be receiving a shot
