after reading DelB post about his upcoming matchplay event, i was just wondering when everyone played their first event and how they got on?

I've never played competitive matchplay, although I have entered my first match play KO championship this year so it won't be long until I do. I have played the format in friendly conditions on numerous occasions.

I played mine last year against one of our juniors kyle who was off +2 and I was off 34 so he had to give me 2 shots a hole and I won 10 and 9 it was complete banditry though

I played my first in 79 and made it to the last hole.
Ive played a number of matchplay games/comps/knockouts and have about a 50/50 pattern of success, but it is or was so often down to the last hole or two which I think is a good record overall.My best one I had won by the 12th hole. I just love Matchplay.

I won 4&3 
Inter junior club match. I was last out ( not because I was good, but because the skipper put all his best players out first - dodgy tactician maybe )
I remember being so nervous that I forgot about giving putts. On the first 3 holes I could/should have lost at least 2 of them, because my oppo had left himself unmissable putts for a win.
But because I was playing like a ballbreaker, and he must have been suffering with nerves as well, he missed them. On the 3rd he gave me a borderline missable putt for the half.
After that I relaxed and played a bit of golf, reaching the 15th ( the 2nd longest par 4 on the course ) tee 3 up with 4 to play. Because we were last out, a few of the other matches, and their skipper, came over to watch. I got a drive away, duffed my 2nd, but then hit a 5 wood to a safe 2 putt distance. My 5 nett 4 won the hole, and I proudly walked off the hole, to be met with strong accusations of banditry.
Why do I remember it so well ?
Because my 2nd matchplay was the following week, the return match. On arrival at their course, which I'd never played before, the 'banter' started before we'd even teed off.
On the first ( a par four unreachable to both of us ) I pitched to within 6 feet. My opponent pitched to 12 feet or so. He drained it. I 3 putted. One down.
I scaped together halves on the next two holes. And then my worst ever golf occured.
I lost every hole from there onwards.
That's dormie 8 walking towards the 11th tee, I believe. A 9 & 7 drubbing.
Yuk, yuk, and treble yuk.

I felt like a winner on the first tee too, having to follow J_F's drive.
I remember my first match, as it was my longest, i lost at the 24th at the furthest point from the clubhouse
Mono, you say you got 2 shots a hole as you were off 34 playing someone off +2. So that means you were playing 18 holes, so how could you win 10 & 9
