So, as the title suggests. I've got my first comp starting this week. Draw being done tomorrow so will find out who I'm up against. Got my handicap of 28 over winter and think I should be good for a couple of shots if last rounds are anything to go by. Any tips for round management as I'm Not usually affected by nerves. Used to be a handy ten pin bowler and was always the finisher in some pretty big national tournaments. So just a few ideas if how to not lose it early would be appreciated. It's a stableford comp btw

Stableford is the easier format for a high h/capper.
If you have a bad hole, forget it & move on to the next.
Don't try any hero shots, keep it simple & in play.
Try to relax & enjoy it.
Good luck.

Try to keep in the present and think about the shot or at least hole your are playing rather than galloping ahead think this that and the other gives me 40 points. Just enjoy the first comp steady start relax and do your stuff.
But most of all enjoy.

Enjoy it. If you are unsure about a ruling, ask before you do anything especially touching the ball. Relax and have fun. Thats why we play the game. I've come bottom of my handicap division many times and so what. If you have a horror there will always be another comp. The more you play the more you get use to them and how to cope especially when you have a good one going.

My advice would be to keep it simple and if you get in trouble take the sensible and shortest route back into play. Use your shots and don't be a hero and gamble. Fairways and greens are key so the more you can do this the better you can score. See if you can brush up the short game this week as it will save you shots

Short game already saves me, my driving just turns up or hides on the day. So I'm either nailing all 80% fir or 5%!!
