So what were your first clubs. And when. How much - if you have that long a memory.

Me?

A set of Howson DJ100's.

Driver, 3 and 5 woods, 3-sw and a putter all in a bag from a place called Hamshaws in St Albans in 1993.

Memory tells me they cost me £249 for the lot.

Got me through about 3 years before they wore out. Even won a medal with them.

Saw a set on E-bay the other week for £5 - no takers....

Full set of Mizuno irons and an unknown putter(that i still use) £25 from the charity shop all in a most garish blue carry bag , 2005.
Those clubs got me hooked, playing a nine hole course on a camp site i use. Sold the irons plus a couple of nothing clubs with the blue carry bag at a boot sale for £40

But the seeds were sown long before that , a family friend used to be quite high up at Dunlop , early 70's and he gave me a 5 and 9 iron that i used to hit on the local playing fields, they were the bees knees compared to the clubs my mates had nicked from the local pitch an putt.

Half a set of Henry Cotton blades(my dad had the other half), a Petron Impala 2 wood, a PGF Australia 4 wood (i still have in my spare bag) and a cheapo putter allin a welly boot green crappy 2nd hand bag.
Most of this was bought with saving paper round money and pocket money circa 1980.

Some random 1970s blades....maybe Slazenger.

t.b.h. I've spent too much on therapy to get over the horror of them.

First set purchased (2nd hand out the rag)....Mizuno "Domino"....not known outside of Birmingham, (to my knowledge) a big shop imported a number of sets from the US.

First driver purchased was a Hippo....not good.

This is a good post. I bought my first set for twenty quid in 1969. A driver, full set of irons from 2 to sand wedge and a putter.

much more recently. a package set of Petron IP (I think), driver, 3&5 wood, 3&4 hybrid, 5-Sw, putter and bag for £89 in AG in Dec 2006.

Lasted less than 3 months before the head snapped on the 7-iron. Full refund went towards a Ben Sayers set - now gone

Mine was a box set of Hippo OSIV. I know many people have a go at these beginner packages but these were pretty good (even having a sensible 11.5 degree driver)

********* Cue the music from "Our Tune" **************

I had a Mizuno 1 1/2 wood and matching 3 wood

I had 7 mixed irons (including a Slazenger 10 iron)

I used an old 1 iron as a putter and heres the best bit !!

I had an Adidas canvas carry bags that collapsed when you tried to stand it up.

These were given to me by my big sisters boyfriend who played off 3 (PsychoJoe).

My 1st full set was Browning graphite shafted thingys and I got them in 1996 and I had them for about 5 years.

In 1992, my mum got me a set of wilson sam snead blades 3 to sw. Was missing an 8 iron though. I'm suprised I continued to play. Beginner + blades = disaster :-(

Then in 1995 I got a set of Faldo mizuno ids. Which have served me very well until this year. I also had a slazenger 4 wood with a tiny head made of permission which I could never hit. The irons I sold to a mate for 60 quid recently.

Now have upgraded to Mizzy mp 67s.

Mine was a full set of ladies cougar, 5-sw, 3,5,7 woods and driver and cost £89 off ebay in 2003, I only upgraded about 2 years ago because hubby and I came into some money. My old set are still going and used by one of the bar staff at my club.
For me a very good buy at the time. :)

Ah , such memories. My first set was from the Peter Craig catalogue - 1/2 set of pinseekers with bag . Bought around 1982 i think . Those catalogues were the source of all that is holy !!! Couldn't wait for the new seasons book to arrive ......As a young teenager , it was nothing to do with the womens lingerie section though :)

Ben Sayers Oversize full set and two dodgy no name woods and a stand bag bought for £60 3 years ago off my old boss.

Now given away to a work mate who has shown interest in taking up this great sport.

Borrowed "my" old seven iron the other day at the range and it was a disaster

I had a second hand half set of varying Dunlop and Slazenger clubs before my first "Full set" of McGregor Ben Crenshaw Irons. Beautiful bladed irons that I couldn't hit to save my life, they looked good though.
