Following on from the recent car threads got me thinking of my first car. A 1972 Ford Cortina 1.3L in white. Same as this but rusty as. But I did'nt care, it was my car. If I ever come into money i'd have a fully restored one in a heartbeat.

1979 Fiesta 1.1L
So "Top of the Range" it didn't have a rear wiper and the windscreen washer was activated by pumping a button on the floor.
But it was mine!

1962 mini van ,you put the key in the ignition and turned it ,then you pushed the starter button ,which was on the floor under the handbrake lever.
happy days.

My first car was a 1967 Triumph Herald 13/60 bought for £40 from my Uncle.

I ran it for two years and sold it for £30.
Next car was a Triumph 2000 Mk1 for which I paid the princely sum of £300.

I really liked the 2000.

My first car and first real love. I Never should have sold it. Which I only did as my parents advised me it wasn't economical enough for traveling to and from leeds everyday. It broke my bloody heart selling it.
I now own its much bigger brother :)

MG Midget 1977 S reg (VCL 109S) 1500 twin carb. £475 first ever insurance.
I would buy that car tomorrow if i knew where it was.. Had to sell it when missis T got herself pregnant.
Different shades of red depending which panel you were looking at. It was a flying pulling machine.
Clutch went, big end bearings went, bloody thermostat went, in the winter when engine damp it never went. Put a roll bar on it from MG meet at Rochdale. Happy days.

Missis T had a Marina coupe, i don't want to talk about being seen in that.

Had a Mini also with the start button under the handbrake. Wire to close the doors with sliding windows and when it went through a puddle water went through the grill and cut the engine out, every time.

This was mine, a Cowies Mini "Super C" Never saw another one like it. Had great fun with it. did 100mph downhill & experienced valve bounce for the only time in my life. When I sold it you could see the ground through a hole in the floor by the handbrake.

A VW Beetle @ £120. Not sure of its age but it was a 6 volt version. When you switched the lights on it actually went darker. A few weeks after I bought it I did an emergency stop at a zebra, and both headlights fell out. It went through a pint of oil a month, and I had to take out the interior heating as it filled the car with exhaust fumes.

I ran it for a year no problem....apart from the above, and then sold it for £60.

My next car being a Dolomite Sprint, which I parked, backwards, in a fence at 70mph.

H reg Mini 850, the rear subframe went within 2 weeks of buying it.

Mine too had holes in the floor, which I patched up with fibreglass only to soon realise that this was a mistake as the car let water in by the bucket whenever it rained and there was now nowhere for it to drain out, so I drilled some holes in the floor.

It wasn't until months later that I tracked down where all the water was coming in. The roof seams that should have drained the water away actually funneled it into a couple of rusted holes under the sealant at the top of the A-pillars, from where it drained straight down the pillar and into the parcel shelf / footwell.
One time I got into the car in the dark when it was raining and pulled off, only for a wave of water to slosh off the parcel shelf and all over my legs.

The splined shaft in the steering was also shot and the front wheels had a disconcerting habit of straightening up again before I was ready!

Great car!

I bought mine in 1964, it was an 1955 Austin A30, it had pop out indicators. It was so narrow that you could sit in the drivers seat and put your left hand out the passenger window.:D
