the last few years we have had fire works getting set off on a daily basis well before and after Bonfire night.

at 2,30 the morning some numpty felt he had to have a his own display setting off a whole box of the things spread over 20 mins.

They are even being set off in broad daylight.

Not a lot of fun for the people with dogs that are petrified of the loud bangs, poor Little Rupert was scared out of his skin

I've been saying it for years.
Just stop the retail sale of them.
Make them available to professional display companies.
I don't see a need for people to have their own displays in their gardens or for idiots letting them off in the street.
Only yesterday the local police tweeted about a fire in a Postbox - some pillock had dropped a firework in a fairly full box of mail....
Let's hope there was nothing important in there then....
There are still many, many injuries every year caused by retail fireworks....
Ban the sale.

Some fireworks in recent days have been because of the end of Diwali.

But yes agree they are too readily available and some users don’t give a monkeys about their neighbours

I used to organise an annual display for the school pta , used a professional display outfit which cost £2000 for a 25 minute aerial show.

Used to get 750 people in at £10 for a family ticket. Made a mint on hot dogs, beer tent, mulled wine and glow sticks.

Happy , safe and finished by 8pm

Individual fireworks are not cheap £100 goes nowhere

100% this

seen those. Rupert is a bit small for one of those at the moment.

Baldrick despite being a gun dog and used to shotguns, was petrified of fireworks and thunder.

Doesn't really bother me as my lab is trained to the gun, but I realize it can be quite upsetting for other households. I would like to say it's only once a year, but New Year's eve round where I live is even worse for it.

Am dreading it this year, as we've got 2 cats now - I still have no idea why they are for sale to the general public, it's dangerous & expensive, especially (as has been said) it seems to last about 2 weeks. I find them a bit boring to be honest.

You could try Rupert with a Feliway plug-in, as this is supposed to be calming for animals.

The official advice is not to let fireworks off yourself - always to go to an organised display.

At my kids primary school, they do a great display each year. The PTA buys the fireworks and a group of dads volunteer to do the actual display. I'm friends with a few of the guys who do it regularly and they always try to rope me in as well, but I prefer to stand and enjoy them with my kids.

A questioned I've often asked though, is what qualifies them to do it more safely than I could do at home?! They're just a bunch of blokes from various walks of life who like burning stuff and letting off fireworks! :D Mostly, having consumed a good few beers throughout the day!

How is this any safer?!?!!!:D

We've used Adaptil for a couple of years now with very good results, Max doesn't run to his self made den anymore when he hears a bang, it startles him but he stays put or comes over to me.

We turn the TV right up, shut all windows and close curtains and try to dampen as much outside noise as possible.

I'd be for a ban on the public sale as well.

I'm also not a great fan of organised displays - living in the centre of Edinburgh there always seemed to be fireworks going off and half the time I didn't even know what the occasion was! Having moved further out now things seem a bit calmer, I hope!

we sort of do that for the night the official display is on in Inverness, but can't do this for weeks before and after. There was even some let off about an hour ago in broad daylight!!!

Our last dog was terrified of fire works, so bad that the vet prescribed him 1mg Valium tablets, and we also used a DAP plug in scent thingy . But our present dog who's now 10 has never been bother by them.

When I lived in south Manchester it was horrible. From about mid October until end of November. Pretty much every night there'd be someone letting them off. But the worst of it was the scabs who aimed them at people on purpose. Had some kids fire one across the main road into the bus shelter I was sitting in. It exploded right next to my head, covering me with molten metal and ashes. Not to mention nearly bursting my eardrum. They were very lucky they had a 50 yard headstart on me. Or maybe I was lucky. If I'd caught one of them they'd have ended up in hospital, that's for sure.

your a right barrel of laughs. so ban public use and ban organised events!!!!! 😀

They are on general sale here all year round as there is always one festival or another every month or so

Also there's no locking them up in glass cases in the stores either, they are on open shelves next to 'regular' items, pretty much anyone can buy them without all the regulations the UK apply

Biggest use will always be for new year (for a small island its unreal how many fire works are set off at that time) but as mentioned Diwali and other celebrations mean its pretty consistent

I hate fireworks season. Diwali, Eid, Halloween and Bonfire Night. Bleurgh.

Numpties set them off at all hours and its so irritating. I am all for a ban on retail sales. The ones you get for home are pretty rubbish in comparison with a proper display.

Dog goes mental too and hides .
