Put my name down for a comp at my club this sunday to get one of my cards in for my handicap.

Been putting it off for a few weeks as my driving went to pot but been playing pretty well the last few rounds feel more confident than i ever have, epsecially after playing a few holes this afternoon. Had back to back birdies which i've never had and one included a chip in off the green and 3 pars.

I'm actually really looking forward to sunday now whereas before i would have been bricking it!

No offence, but i'm not sure why you'd put your name down IN a comp, just for Handicap Card purposes ?
Might have been better to just have a social knock with another member, as you cant play in the comp anyway ?

go for it bozza, I put myself forward for a forum meet, afterwards thought nooooooooooo what have I done but we have to do it sometime.

just play your own game, you know your ready and capable otherwise you wouldn;t have entered ;)

I only really know one other person with a handicap who i play golf with and he works diffrent shifts to me so it's hard to get a game.

The pro in the shop said a few people at our course just play in 3 comps if they don't know many people just so they can get there handicap and one of your 3 cards has to been in a comp, even though your technically not in it.

I think playing better golfers will only make me play better. No offence to my old man and his couple of mates i play with but i can play crap, even putting myself off a 22 handicap and still beat them so it's kinda holding me back abit as i get abit too laid back and make silly mistakes. Whereas if i was playing someone better than me i know i'd concentrate alot more and hopefully play alot better.

dont play them, play the course and shoot as best as you can. I love playing with a mate of mine who is off 11, he gives me loads of advice and when he creams a drive it makes me wanna follow suit, not that I ever do.

Get your 3 cards in regardless how then you have a measure to set yourself against :)

good luck and enjoy

I do try to play the course but when someone who i'm playing with is having a nightmare it rubs off on me abit. My old man has started to play pretty well and is hovering on the 100 mark but his mate is having a mare and is racking up 120's and it's hard to get a good round going when he's loosing balls all over the place and not in the best moods all round.

I shouldn't complain because we have all been there but i do think i need to start playing with better golfers abit more regular to improve my game. Either that or it will make me realise i'm nowhere near as good as i thought i was! haha :)

Agree completely, always play better when out with better players, hackers have a habit of dragging me down to their level! I know I shouldn't but it just happens that way. Good luck with the comp, hopefully you'll get paired with some decent players and play some golf shots

I did the same G1BBO, I rushed around to get my handicap in time for the Hanbury Manor Centenary.. Really enjoyed the day and everyone was friendly, and its good to see how other peopel attack the course.
