Well. I've finally had enough at Chesfield Downs. I've been a member for just over 3 years now and in most part loved it.

There is just 1 thing that's driven me away.

Pace of Play.

Everything else I'd rate highly. The members and committee are fantastic. The course is good, but not great. And the facilities are top notch.

But due to the pace of play it quite often means during the summer months if I get out of work early, and can actually get a tee time, I don't have time to finish 18 holes. It's normal for 5h+ rounds, even playing as a 1 ball and getting let through a few holes.

So yesterday http://www.knebworthgolfclub.com had an open day and had a great new members offer on, so a few of us went along to see what was what. After we sat and listened, asked a lot of questions and spent a lot of time talking to the committee we pretty much signed on the spot.

So no more need to book tee times or enter comps. Just show up and they'll get you out.

No more cheap green fee deals and societies taking priority over members.

And, the course is significantly better. And tougher by all accounts. I've only played it once but that was enough to see how much better it is than Chesfield. So I expect my handicap to suffer for a while

I'm off all week, so am going to be playing quite a bit to get my eye in on the course.

I've still got 9 months Chesfield membership to run as well so I'll probably still play in some of the comps.

It's a shame as I've made a lot a really good friends there, but there's no point playing their if I can't play when I want.
