hello - long time reader (well a few months anyway) so i thought i'd sign up and join in and contribute now i've finally decided in order to improve my golf, i've joined a club (Royston) instead of being a nomad with my usual playing partner of the courses around Cambridge. Hopefully now after forking out £795 i will play a lot more and get used to a particular course and see my score tumble into 2 figures instead of the usual 100-110 range and hopefully a new handicap will also gradually make its way into the low 20s.
Here's to a cracking summer and lots of smashing a little white ball accurately towards a far off hole.

Welcome to the forum and enjoy Royston.

Been a few years since I played Royston but a fun course, albeit a bit exposed to the elements at times. One big positive is it drains exceptionally well and is rarely closed due to the weather, keep meaning to get back there for a game.

Not sure if you were aware, but as a member there you get membership of the smartgolfer network too which gives you free reciprocal golf at approx 25 other clubs, quite a few that are local to you (bourn, girton, brampton park etc)

It's certainly a hilly course and when i played it 10 days or so ago it was pretty breezy up on the top of the heath. Its great fun hitting over deep gullys and teeing off 100+ feet above the green and as you say, the drainage is excellent with hte fairways and greens in top notch condition. Combined with lots of comps and morning roll ups i can't wait for my membership to be finalised and i can get going.
I will probably take up the option of reciprocal golf as my mate likes Bourn, except for large audience on the par 3 first hole as there is usually a large queue of people waiting to tee off.
