Finally managed to get out on the course today. Only played nine holes and all the greens were temps but it was good to see how the lesson I had recently transferred from the range (where its easy - hit a bad one and just put another down) into a one time chance on course. I actually struck it rather well for the first seven holes. Hit a big push right down 17 and lost a ball and hit a poor tee shot down the 18th and then lost a ball in the pond (technically I didn't lose it as its sitting on the ice).

I went to the practice ground to hit some balls off grass rather than the range mats and although it started well I ended up losing tempo and started to slide the hips again instead of turning. I tried to switch to some wedge shots hitting 1/2 and 3/4 pitches but to be honest the ground was so wet I ended up hitting a lot of them fat or playing of squidgy muddy lies which made the ones I hit well hard to control the distance. It was good to be out though and I can't wait until New Years Day to play again weather permitting. Back to work tomorrow

Seems like a popular day to give it a whirl.

I went and played and tested out the skycaddie. Played perfectly well except every time I hit a green full toss the ball bounced about 30' high and 10 yards through the back.

Nice golf weather other than frozen greens.

I parred the 450 yard par 4 6th that normally charges me a double bogey tax. Hit a 5 iron 206 yards up a frozen fairway, followed by a rescue about 230!!! chipped on and holed out from 4 foot. easy. :)

Managed to hit a 256 yard 5 wood (measured by Mr SG5) off the tee on one hole..... :) :).....concrete fairways all the way for us up here!!!

Well for some Homer im still stuck at playing Tiger Woods on the Wii its as close as im going to get to a course for at least another week anyway with the weather here...

I played today in the annual 4 club challenge, took driver, 7 iron, 9 iron and putter. The course was in excellent condition considering the recent snow and heavy rain. A bit frosty to start but soon cleared with a little sun.

For me, the same old story of late - 18 points going out with a measley 8 coming in  But hey, no complaints from me, just glad to get out at last. :) :) :D :D

Golfmmad.

i'm still stuck at playing Tiger Woods on the Wii

Now we're talking. I bought mini-RGDave a Wii for Christmas. I take it you are playing the "(20)10" version? £22.99 from Amazon.....ought to get it really.

I'm not exactly good at the Wii sports/resort golf game though :D Pretty good at 100-pin bowling though. Shame about beach frisbee, I'm rubbish at that too.

Sorry to our Northern, Scottish and Irish contingents it was probably a tad insensitive with all the snow you're experiencing although it was the other way round last week. It was just good to get onto a tee or a fairway and have to hit a shot properly or face the consequences. I sort of wish I'd played the full eighteen instead of going to the practice ground but anything was better than being at home or at the sales

No apologies neccessary Homer.....We cant control the weather over here as much as id like to :D

And Dave ya i got the 2010 version its very lifelike....
I have the 2008 version and its not a patch on the 2010 version...
If you are getting it buy the little bits that add on to the ends of the controllers as they allow you to roll the club head over and back to produce the draw and fade shots....Its very realistic.... :D ;)

Still a healthy covering of snow and ice up here. No Golf for the forseeable future. Just watching re runs of reviews of majors I've got recorded on Sky+

I am ever so jealous as well.

motion plus? got it included in the pack.

I got out today myself and wasn't too impressed with the course. We played at clays in wrexham and 8 out of the 18 greens were frozen solid with a sheet of ice covering the whole green.

I think i wont be playing now til feb at the earliest, i don't mind the cold weather but playing on frozen greens is a waste of time.

Hey, algar5 I'm jealous too, 'cos I don't have sky tv, so don't get to watch much golf. :(

I do sympathise with all you guys that can't get out due to weather, but I'm sure you don't begrudge those that can, being the good sports you all are :D

Golfmmad.

I had a tee booked for 9.30 this morning, but the course was closed. I was suprised because the snow and ice has thawed everywhere else but they said there was still a covering on the course. Needless to say I was gutted :(

Golfmmad,

Certainly don't begrudge you the good fortune of being able to get out on the course. You'll be glad to know that watching reruns on Sky does'nt come close to actually getting out there on the course.

So take advantage of it cause being a good sport I would certainly be doing the same.

Lucky man Homer, we're under about 10" of snow that fell on 22/23rd and has been sub-zero since, suffering -12c presently. Not golfing weather I think you'll agree!

Snow has disappeared round my way now but course still closed. Rather that than the damage caused last year by trying to stay open when it should have been closed. Will try again tomorrow otherwise it will be the weekend. That said, more snow forecast so all that may go wrong
