i only took up golf roughly 4 months ago as i felt i wasnt doing enough at the weekends i joined my local club that has 2 18 holers and a cute 9 holer the problem there was they wanted you to have another member to sign your cards for your handicap, i didnt think that would be a problem but for the life of me i couldnt find a member willing to play with a new guy, so i joined another club a little bit further away from my house but near the inlaws and spoke to the pro signed up and he set me up for 3 rounds with some regular guys and today after dropping off my 3rd card on friday i can now say i have a juicy 26 handicap better than i thought i would have been more than happy with a 28 considering how many damn balls i lost! so traded in my driver for a nice putter so hopefully that will drop soon enough, im more happy i can now enter opens and get a richer taste of golf on different courses, on a high right now cant wait till tuesday to play my first medal :D

By eck Big Eck, well done!

Bunch of miserable gits at your first club, but their loss as they're now a new member down.

Good handicap after just 4 months, keep it going and get yourself on a few forum meets!

my problem now is i promised the wife another horse if i reach 18, that was before i upgraded my clubs and never thought i would get anything better than a 28!

Nice one big eck, good going for a man who's only been playing 4 months :)

You're better off at Newburgh than at Hazlehead anyway. Hazlehead 1 could be a terrific course but it suffers from a lack of care and over-use. Newburgh must be better looked after. Definitely worth the extra travel.

Are you stuck with membership at the first club as well now, or were you able to cancel it?

Sounds pretty poor not to be able to get a game for a hc card. Did the pro or any of the committee try to help?

I would never normally advocate someone to manage thier handicap but this is probably the most valid excuse I've ever heard for doing so ;)

I haven't asked about cancelling the membership, was only £120 and it is pretty local so still handy if I do go for a round and have a quick pint after

Good on ya - only started playing myself about 18 months ago and my target for 2013 was to get an official Handicap ... which I did in March and mine is 28 :)

Know how you feel about playing your first Medal and it was such good fun I've been playing the Sunday competitions regularly - good luck and enjoy!
