I witnessed a hole in one by one of my playing partners yesterday.
East Brighton, 7th hole and Ray Taylor (who quite a few of you have met) had his first ever ace.
Perfectly struck 7 iron, which drew in towards the pin, bounced twice and dropped straight in.
Ray and I have known each other for 25 years or more, and must have played thousands of games of golf together, both here and abroad.
Been on countless golfing holidays and week-end breaks with any number of golfers and nobody in all that time has had a hole in one.
I couldn't have been more pleased if I'd managed it myself.
Great stuff, which rounded off a superb day both weather wise and the company was exceptional.
This is what golf is all about....and I managed to nick a tenner off of Norman too!

Never seen one either. But have been present for one. Our 12th has mounding/bunkers front right which obscures a view of the hole for any pins that side. None of us knew it was close let alone in. Very pleased for my PP, but a little sad he didn't experience the elation of seeing it drop.
 
Had 2, neither seen.

Seen another - complete joke, bouncing off road and roaring down and up slop etc.!

Seen 1 dreaded 'hole in 3'!
 
Luckily I have had a few, 'witnessed' one last year only to get to the hole and find it about 1/2" behind the hole which we couldn't see so a lot of cheering and back slapping for nowt.

Congratulations to you and your PP, the first one is a great feeling.

I had one, but I shouldn't have playing. I was recovering from a cruciate graft and was told by the hospital physio that I couldn't under any circumstances play golf for 6 months, after 3 months I took to the course and in my first round got a hole in one, I never owned up to her that I had played before she gave me the ok
 
I had my one & only on 23 July 1970. I know, because it was the day I got engaged and the date is engraved on the inside of the ring my wife bought me. I didn't see it, it was on the 1st & it was raining. I hit the shot then dodged under my umbrella. Nobody else noticed until we got to the green. We only played 5 holes, then walked in.
 
Thats brilliant, congratulations!!!!

Have had 2 and seen 3, one of which was by Chris Connell when he was Pro at Merrist Wood. He had it on the 11th whilst playing with Reteif Goosen!!
 
And I saw a 3 on a par 3 with the second ball!! It was on the 2nd at Gatton Manor, I think my PP first shot is till orbiting the Earth it was so wild, but the second pitched behind the pin and spun back in.
 
I've had one myself, many, many years ago but it just seemed strange that nobody had ever aced a hole before on all of our trips. When you think of how many golf courses we have played over the years, how many par 3's we have played between us and nobody has even come close. Having said that Ray hit the pin on a par 3 at St Mellion a couple of years ago but it was a longish hole and on the trajectory the ball came in at there was no way it was going to trouble the cup.
I played reasonably well myself yesterday, really getting back into it and growing to love my new irons.
Had 20 points on the front 9 despite blobbing the 9th, and had 15 on the back 9 with a further two blobs. One of those was when I went into a greenside bunker on a par 5 where the sand was like rock hard mud. Could not get out of the bloody thing, took me 3 attempts and then I missed the putt for a double bogey 7.
Another blob was down the last hole, par 5 into the sun and I hit a superb drive only to lose my ball with the second shot. Despite hitting it well, nobody had a clue where it had gone due to the sun being in our eyes. It's amazing how quickly five minutes passes when you are looking for a golf ball.
Annoying as I had had 3 birdies in my round too.
