So after more 0.1's than I care to remember my hcp finally reached 27.5 at the weekend. I feel I'm playing better than ever but just couldn't put a full 18 holes together. I'd play well for four or five holes then have a disasterous few then pull it all together again. So frustrating.
So mid week stableford time again on Tuesday and was playing with a group I'd never played with before but knew quite well. Most low or mid hcpers and was a bit worried I'd show myself up but put it out of my mind and to just enjoy the round. First tee and playing partners find the fairway, cue me to hit a big push fade/slice onto the 8th fairway! Oh dear! A decent if slightly thin 9i clears the trees and ends on the fringe of the green phew! Ended with a 5 so not as bad as could be! Blobbed the second and deares the worst.
The swing then clicked and played some decent stuff, not my best my consistant. Parred the next three missing the birdie putts on the way! Blobbed the sixth from a bad case of the tops which was the last blob on the round. A birdie chip in on the 12th being a highlight. Ended with 39 points and 3rd place with a nice cut of 1.2. My first cut in 18 months!
They were playing there own side bet of £6 a man which I turned down as I only had £3 in my pocket, gutted as would have gone home with £40 in my pocket as had best front, back & total, a birdie and nearest the pin!
Still felt that I left a lot out there as it wasn't my best golf but my bad shots weren't as bad and nearly always had some sort of shot and a shot of luck thrown in too.
Sorry to ramble on but I've been well chuffed the last couple of days and just wanted to share the love! The winner had 45 points! A young lad off 15 who had the round of his life even starting with a 6!
