Some of you may have read various threads from me about starting out, joining a club, submitting cards etc....

Well I finally got around to doing it all and yesterday my name was added to the handicap sheet. Got given 18 which I'm over the moon about as an achievement but also a bit gutted for competitions! My playing partner who has been playing a little while longer than me and who I consider to be a better player got given 22 - again, chuffed to be lower than him!

why?

Not sure really, suppose in my mind I'd imagined my starting handicap would be higher so had been working out my stableford scores recently based on being off around 22. Just worked out last Sundays card if I was off 18 and scored 36 so I'm happy with that.

there ya go- Embrace a lower handicap, you can obviously play to it. 18 should be the max anyway;)

In your opinion, but evidently not of the people that matter!

Anyway, congrats GPS - good start, now for the hard bit! My advice though, just enjoy your golf and let the rest take care of itself.

correct, well spotted:whoo:

Just clarifying that what you said was not a statement of fact, notwithstanding that you chose to word it as such.

If you feel the need to be sarcastic, that's up to you. I'd prefer the forum to be a place that's welcoming to all comers, regardless of ability.

It is a fact, why do you not think it is?

Who was sarcastic? I stated my opinion on max limit yet you want to call it something else. Take the trolling elsewhere and stop trying to stir things up

Nice try. But I'm not going to rise to it. Top trolling CMAC, keep up the good work.

Come on fellas, kiss and make up and stay on topic eh? CMAC made what I took to be a tongue-in-cheek comment about handicaps, no offence was caused was it?

Thanks for the advice Canary_Yellow. When I first started playing not much more than a year ago I could barely get the ball away from the tee box - I think my longest drive was about 40-50 yards. So as much as I would love to get down to single figures it's not something I'll beat myself up over. I play to enjoy myself and have a bit of a laugh, and the day that stops will be the day I give up playing.

With the right advice, the appropriate practice and the time, single figures is achievable for everyone in my opinion.

It doesn't just happen on it's own, but if you want it enough and put in the time and effort then I'm sure you can get there!

Either way, celebrate the good times and try not to worry too much about the bad - I haven't been playing long either, but the most important thing I've learned is to just enjoy each and every round whatever happens.
