Having read the thread on favourite shot it struck me that a fair few of your courses finish on a par 3. It's the same at mine with a narrow entrance to a green with water down the right that curves in front. There are 4 big fir trees on the left putting a premium on accuracy. It's 190 yards off the whites and depending where the pin is it's a 4/5 iron for me. Personally, I love it as a finishing hole especially when I stick it on the dancefloor. My mate hates it, especially if he's hit a poor drive on 17 and would rather finish on a par 5.

Just wondered what your last hole is like and whether you are happy with it as a last hole. If not which other hole on your course would you like to finish with and why?

194 yard par 3.

Mostly plays wind against as our course is in a vale.

High elevated tee, down a steep dip, across a large ditch, elevated green the same level as the tee, OOB immediately behind green, lots of trees and bushes both sides of the green.

Card wrecker !!!!!

I hate having a par three as the last. seems a bit of a let down.

We have a par five, dog leg left, with a sloping fairway. Tricky drive, which can be a nerve jangler if you have a card going. It is possible to get on for two with two crackers, and so it can be an eagle opportunity. Risk/reward on the last. Perfect.

Massivly downhill right to left dogleg par 5. Two choices off the tee, right with a hybrid leaves about 250 in down the hill or cut over the OB on the left with a driver to leave just about 180 in (depending on how much you cut off). OOB all down the left side. ponds front, right and back of the two tiered green. Very good risk reward tee shot and to make it a double risk reward it has those lakes too.

My safe way of playing it is to hit driver with a draw to the right side to roll down the hill, lay up down the hill with an 8 iron short of the water then pitch it on.

Pretty easy 5 for almost all levels but what makes it special is that its a blummin difficult 4 for most of us (mostly due to the shape of the greens undulations and tiers).

I love it!

194 yard par 3. Slightly uphill with 4 bunkers. Can be a 5 iron to a 3 wood depending on wind direction but there is oob round 2/3 of the hole. It's also a sloping green which is unusual at my course so even a 2ft putt is well missable.

Can be a card wrecker but when I won a gold letter comp this year it was a good par hole

429 yard par 4
Pretty straight but lots of trees waiting for a pull/hook and lots of clag waiting for a slice.
A ditch and hedge to carry - its not far but it plays on the mind. Once through that its fairly straight forward, a few mounds around the green so if you're left or right then you're chipping onto a downslope. SI6 so most get shots and really its a easy 2 pointer for sensible play.
But it does play into the wind and with non-running fairways many need a wood to get up in 2.
Its the end of a toughish finish with 16 being an uphill 437 yarder, then a downhill par 5 of 500 with a ditch in front of the green so you have to carry that to get up in 2.

So all in all a tough finish. I often, however, get 8 or 9 points from these 3 holes so I like it!

Currently a tree lined 390 yard par 4, slight dogleg. Fairway bunker (which used to gurard the green until the hole was extended a few decades ago) which shouldn't really come into play and an elevated green. Not a great hole but looks nice and a decent birdie chance so quite welcome.

However our course is being swiched round. The 8th is going to be the 1st and the current 7th is being remodelled and re-routed to become our 18th. It will be a reachable dog-leg par 5 with lots of humps and hollows and bunkers around a large undulating green right in front of the club house. Should be ready for play in the spring. Can't wait. :D

par 5, 500 odd yards finish that is a real birdie chance for the longer hitters. However its not a straight forward hole because it doglegs 90* right. The fairway runs out at 295 and theres a small window of landing area to give you the optimum chance of going for the green in 2. Unfortunately there are some massive trees on the inside of the dogleg , which is a snakey sort of dogleg that pushes you over to the left of the fairway for the lay-up. These trees are very tall and it takes a really cracking shot to clear them and then clear the smaller ones all the way up to the green (right on line with the green btw not off to the side). Oh and its OOB right for about 260 yards off the tee aswell

Its far more sensible to play into the bigger area left and then pitch on (not what I usually do lol). This hole cost me a triple bogey in last years club champs as I tried to cut up a 5 iron over the trees but hit the top of one of them and it knocked it into thigh high brambly rough. I lost the comp on coutback too

Overall I like it as a finishing hole cos its a risk reward hole where an eagle could really set you up for a great round or it could bite you in the ass as stated earlier

The 18th tee affords a fantastic view of the clubhouse but don’t allow yourself to become too distracted. Out of bounds guards the right side of the final hole and you also have to negotiate two water hazards one from the tee and one short left of the green. This hole epitomises the necessity for accurate driving at Kings Acre. Hit the fairway and you will be rewarded with an open approach shot to the last green which will test even the best putters.

360 yard par 4 off the whites.

I like it, drive the water and a wee 7/8 iron onto the green. As long as the feckin Swan and signets dont interfere with your ball, your laughing. :D

205yds par 3, downhill quite a bit. Bank full of cabbage about 5yds off the right of the green, OOB a further 15yds right. Any thing long will go onto a road and probably through to some trees approx 8yds behind the green. Anything left will kick away down the bank and either find the captain's bunker or further down the bank to leave you a pitch upto the green which is about 10feet above you.

It can play anything from an 8 iron to a rescue to a pretty small target. On it's own merits it's a very good par 3, I just don't like it as an 18th hole.

There are plans in place to change the holes around this will then become the 15th which will be much better IMO.

The "new" 18th will then be a 535yd par 5, the drive is tricky but if you get one away it's all downhill and the green is nearly always in range. It'll be a good 18th as an eagle or a bogey are very much in range.

480 yard par 5 that has a sharp dog leg left at the end over water. Harder than it sounds as you need to drive about 280 to have any view of the green. Green protected by mature trees on the left before this.

Ours is a strange one, 378 yards of the whites but only 338 of the yellows. large long pond on the left from 180 yards in. (198 from the white 158 from the yellows) Trees all the way down the right, with a narrow fairway.

Large oak tree next to the pond 50 yards from the green cuts out the green if you are on the left hand side of the fairway, so a narrow entrance to a green with 3 bunkers to the right one to the left, and one long right.
Sloping green back to front.

Most of us prefer playing of the white tee as you can take out the water on the left hand side, or bang it down the middle but leave yourself back far enough to get over the tree. Good finishing hole, especially for the brave.

190 yards and you stick it with a 5 iron????
How come you're off 28?
      ;)

Concentration, composure, control, consistency or lack of. Had six blobs in our last stableford comp and scored 30 pts. Go figure. :D

Tiger, Obviously with the wind against, I thought you normally hit the 7i :D :D :D

Our 4th is a 208 yard par 3 slightly uphill protected by two big bunkers either side with a gap of about 10 yards. A 7 h/c I was playing with the other week wasn't impressed when a struck my 4i though the gap only for it to run through the green. I think his quote was ''25 h/c my arse'' He finished with 35 points and me with 29.

To be honest there was a slight wind behind when I hit that 4i, otherwise it would have been on the green ;) ;)

Mine is 114 yard par 3 (lol) the green is surrounded by steep hills 3 sides which in turn are bordered by trees and a lake the near side so basically if you miss the green your screwed.

I actually enjoy finishing on a par 3 as i'm knackered by then and am just looking forward to a beer in the pub next door.

Ours is a tricky 340yd bank and borrow fest.
bunkers left and right dotted all the way to the green from 250ish, two tier green and the practice putting green and clubhouse behind. Get your approach a little short and it will run all the way back down to the fairway even though it has been relaid twice to reduce the severity of the bottom tier.

A par-5 with narrow brook some 110 yards to the green. The green is protected by a lake to the right and large bunkers on the left

A very good finishing hole.

Par 4 433yards, plays slightly uphill all the way to the green and is a slight left to right dog leg. Out of bounds and trees on the right, bunker left and right edge of the fairway around the 270yard area and the one on the right has a high lip so it's just a wedge out unless your right at the back of the bunker. Green slopes from back to front with a big shallow bunker right and a deeper bunker left. Really hard hole to finish on but i like it even though i've never done scored better than a 5 on it.

The last 2 holes are both tough long par 4's to finish on but low index so it's good place to claw back a few points on stableford if you play them well.
