Big stooshy up north is the expulsion of Barry Ferguson and Allan McGregor from ever playing for Scotland again and most likely Rangers too.

Their crime - they went on an 8 hour bender after losing to Holland last Saturday when there was another game on the Wednesday and whilst still representing their country.
They got demoted to the subs bench for the Iceland game and took that so childishly that they both sat there making two-finger gestures to, I presume, the Scotland manager behind his back? :(

They're not 19, they are 31 and 27! They earn £25k and £15k per week respectively!

What does everyone think?
Overpaid, over-rated yobs IMO. Good riddance to both of them.

Well done to the powers that be at SFA and especially Rangers for having the conviction to sort these numpties out. :D

To think they have both squandered their futures because of such a childish act is laughable. I hope nobody takes them on because the deserve to never pick up another over inflated pay cheque. Lets see them work 50 hours on a builders site or in a factory earning £6 per hour...

Wasters !!!!!!!!!

Good to see a proper punishment for acting the arse. Too many times they get a slap on the wrists and told not to do it again.

I could maybe forgive them the booze bender but the V sign gestures were pathetic. I am glad to see the SFA taking a strong stance. IMHO Ferguson is a good but not a great player.

I bet the childish, over-paid premadonnas aren't laughing now. I admire the people who made the decisions and hope it sends a message to other would be idiots.
For too long people in authority have been frightened of dealing out appropriate punishments for bad behaviour, both in adult life and schools as there is no real deterrent. Perhaps this will send a message to others.

Just a couple of spoilt brats. I'm glad that the fans voiced their opinion so vocally at Hampden last Wednesday.

As professional athletes they should not have been anywhere near the bar last sunday monrning. They had another important game three days later. The fact that they saw fit to get rat arsed and then have a verbal spat with the manager only proved thay had no respect for George Burley or the rest f their teammates. The schoolboy antics of flicking their fingers at whoever wanted to watch whilst on representative duty was thankfully the final nail in their coffin!

Lets get some young blood in who wants to play for their country in their place.

I would like to have been a fly on the wall when Walter Smith explained what was to happen to them yesterday at Murray Park. Bet he picked up a few tips from Fergie when working under him!

I agree with you Medway, the English and all other FAs need to take this sort of stance. Big round of applause to the Scottish FA and Rangers who wasted no time in dealing with this (I can imagine all the committee meetings etc to make such a decision in England)

I can not understand so called Professional athletes think its ok to get rat arsed 3 days before a major game.

The off season is long enough to get rat arsed.

Whilst I don't condone what they did, I can imagine the outcry if one of your mates lost his livelihood for having a few drinks and acting immaturely.

I've been mulling this over today, and the conclusion I've come to is the fact that this isn't any different from Sir Fred The Shred Goodwin. After all he's sticking two fingers up to the rest of us, but getting away with it! :(

If they were doing it whilst at work, and especially representing their country, I would have no hesitation in sacking them.

To my mind that therefore includes every Christmas do or event where the company makes any contribution towards the occasion. I know my contract and staff handbook say that. Anybody on here ever had too much or acted immaturely at a works sponsored do? That they are representing their country should be immaterial.

I agree they were stupid, that they should have known better, they should understand they are in the public eye, but I'm not sure the punishment fits the crime.

I think the SFA should be applauded and the club too if they decide not to play them again as mentioned in some of the press. I think Ferguson in particular will find it hard to stay with a big club now as I think he'll be seen as damaged goods.

Canford, read the whole original post, I think you're missing the point. Most of us would agree that the getting pissed part, whilst pretty stupid, wasn't that serious, its the following part 3 days later sitting on the bench giving 2 fingers gestures to those in authority, in what they thought was a disguised fashion, which really upset people. They didn't accept their punishement of being dropped as their low intellect overly paid egos couldn't take it.

If you cannot be a professional you should not be employed as one. If you can't set an example, an example should be set.

Where the office party is concerned, this is a private invitation do, not normally in the public eye to any great extent, nor is it promoted outside the company.
