Sunflowers is on my bedroom wall. I've also seen the original.
The Scream anticipated today's full catastrophe living.
It took Picasso 40 years to learn how to paint like a child. Seen his work in the Tate Modern.
Seen the Mona Lisa in the Louvre. If it doesn't take your breath away, nothing will.

I like a Monet. It was great to see some of his paintings close up in The Oranagerie in Paris.

I think the Mona Lisa is unquestionably the most disappointing painting I've seen. You expect so much from it but I just found it meh.

If those are your 4 favourites, have you actually looked at any others or was Google your friend for the sake of a new thread? ;)

I'd agree, plenty of far better art to be seen elsewhere in the Louvre, that said I'm glad I saw it. I love the national gallery too and everyone should visit it at least once. However I really don't get modern art and all that junk at the Tate modern, some is just stuff you find all the wall of an infant's school.

I think if you are there then you have to see it, it's just an iconic painting.

I've seen some Van Gogh's and they look pretty darned good up close. Sunflowers doesn't do it for me but his other stuff is very viewable.

I agree about modern art, Picasso as well. Just doesn't do it for me 🤷🏻‍♂️

Agreed. When we went to The Louvre, there was a massive crowd around it, 5 or 6 deep. When we got to see it, I thought 'is that it?". It's also a lot smaller than you would expect.

My favourite that day was Salome with the head of John the Baptist. I love Caravaggio and Goya.

My dad used to tell a story about Guernica. Picasso was living in Paris during the war, the Nazis came to his house. His painting of Guernica was propped up against a wall. The Nazis asked him "did you do this?".

"No, you did it" was his answer.
