I think every golfer will get this now and again reminiscing back to a hole of golf they have played!

so my favourite was the 18th at trevose, as a par on it secured me my first under 80 score. Dodgy tee shot lead to a chip and putt for the par!

what is yours?

Whitby Golf Club, where I learnt to play as a kid and where my old man still plays. Favourite hole is probably the par 4 4th, (used to be the 5th), over a short ravine with a good drive leaving a wedge to the tricky back to front sloping green. Reminds me of my youth when we'd play 5 holes and then home!

Really too many great ones for one reason or another to single any single one out.

But the Sunningdale Old 10th always springs to mind in these sort of questions. Fabulous view; great challenge of a hole; I was happy to Par it having just missed the (40 footer from off the green) Birdie; The Half Way House is the next stop!

Birdie on the Par 3 second at Royal Dornoch (The hardest shot in golf is the second at Royal Dornoch - if you miss the green) - Ping Eye five wood to back of green and snaking 30 footer for birdie.

Had wanted to play Dornoch for ages and this was part of a front nine where I played to under my handicap - loved the course.

The second at Portsalon has to be one of the best single golf holes I have ever played. The course is a cracker but this hole is special, only problem is it comes too early in the round. It can be anything from driver to 6 iron off the raised tee which can then leave anything ffrom a wedge to a three wood for the second depending on the wind. OOB all down the left and a lengthy carry for your second. Excellent hole for me.

The 15th at rickmansworth herts , it a severly uphill par 3 175 yards , i hit a wood up the hill and landed just to the right of the green , my playing partner landed on the green so naturaly i went first and chipped a little bump and run onto a sloping green and it rolled round and into the hole , my playing partners reaction was , " you jammy bas......." Ect ect

Nairn Dunbar Golf Course - the par 5 Long Peter - as you approached the green, out of the bushes came Bob MacIntosh, pro/money collector.
Nobody about at tee off so money collected on the course, very nice way to do business.

However back to Bob, green play over, money taken - now the value for money starts. Your bunker shot is replayed, your chip is replayed and even your putts are replayed and corrected..... at no cost and with little said. A dour Scot was Bob.

A nod and 'on your ways and just remember ...... keep that head down'

He was, what I consider, as traditional as the R & A itself and I feel sure there is one pro on here who will know what I mean, another Bob!

Indeed totally agree - played in twice in wildly different conditions and yes a shame it is only 2nd, given 1st, while tricky, doesn't just give enough warm up to it....

it must be quite annoying to have to lay up on a not overly long par 4 2nd when into wind...

love the course.

14th Old Course. The perfect par 5. Out of bounds tight down the right, bunkers down the left, and a rather large deep bunker waiting for your second shot. The green is no picnic either.;) Amazingly I managed to par it both times I played it, and hit two career second shots to carry Hell bunker. If I hadn't I would probably still be there now. Seem to remember Big Jack taking a few to extract himself.

18th Royal Lytham St Anne's, parred it first day and banged a 25ft birdie putt on 2nd day. Tough tee shot as well all you can see is bunkers.

That's quite a result on that hole with a dodgy tee shot.

I have two.
The first is the 4th at Trevose. Good tee shot then a cracking 3 wood just beside the green with a chip to 8 inches for a tap in birdie.
The second was in a practice round at St Austell GC. 11th hole with a hard right dogleg. Hit a great drive then a nine iron onto the green and sunk the 18 foot putt for a birdie.

hole #4 at las ramblas golf club in spain
a classic risk-and-reward par 5. with good tee shot (uphill) you can attack the green but be sure to hit a good one because you have to clear 2 (!) ravines. between them there is some fairway though

Played Whitby for the first time on Monday in a somewhat challenging wind. Took this picture of that exact hole.
