Hello all, I'm after some advice from the hive.
I ordered a pair of Adidas Gripmores back in February but have only wore them twice, most recently being last weekend. I noticed after the round that the rubber was coming away from the sole in a couple of places. Contacted the original online retailer and was told they'll need to go back to Adidas but returning them would be at my cost (£11, Signed For) as it was over 28 days since I purchased them. Not happy with this, I spoke to Adidas direct who said that's the retailers policy and nothing to do with them but I could search the partner-retailers on their website and drop off there to be returned. Unfortunately the website only shows South East partners and I'm in the Midlands!

Anybody been in a similar situation? Does the original retailer have a duty to replace my shoes and cover return postage?

Bit of a grey area and downside to online shopping.
Would you get expenses to take them back to shop in town?
Use a courier signed for about half price of parcel force/RM.

Crap retailer!

The old 360s had an issue with premature heal wear. My pro rund Addidas and a new pair were sent without question and, when asked about returning the faulty pair, they said just to keep them.

My advice would be contact the seller and remind them of their obligation under the sales of goods act 1979 14.2a which states;

(2B)For the purposes of this Act, the quality of goods includes their state and condition and the following (among others) are in appropriate cases aspects of the quality of goods—

(a)fitness for all the purposes for which goods of the kind in question are commonly supplied,

(b)appearance and finish,

(c)freedom from minor defects,

(d)safety, and

(e)durability.

I would also add to the seller as the goods were not fit, any costs of sending them to them is their liability.

This is highly dependant on whether the seller is in the UK or not.

I agree and would have thought your contract was with the retailer irrespective of whether it was an old fashioned shop or online

Thanks all. This particular online retailer is a well established UK one, which dozens of people on here would have used!
Using pbrown7582's advice I got an alternative courier quote for £4.20 so just don't think it's worth the hassle of arguing my case. I guess that's what they rely on. If the same happens again to the replacement pair I won't be as quick to back down!

This is the postage cost to return the item to the retailer?
The retailer bears the cost of returning them to Adidas?

Whilst I get that it is annoying i don't think they are contravening any regs here.

No, according to Adidas the retailer occurs no cost for returning faulty items back to them. As above, Sale of Goods act states the retailer has a responsibility to reimburse any additional shipping costs incurred by the customer due to a faulty item. The retailers T&C's state though " Any faulty products after reported 28-days from invoice date cannot be collected and are covered only by the CRTBW (customer return to base warranty)."
But for the sake of the more palatable £4.20, I'm not getting into a drawn out saga with them!

I've had mine for over a year, playing on average at least once a week + practice and have had no issues with the rubber coming away. Hopefully just an isolated faulty pair.

I went through 3 pairs of AdiZero 1s last year with a similar thing - upper coming away from the sole and water getting in. Bought them through my club and returns were always immediate and without.

After going through my 3rd pair I was offered a a pair of Nike Lunar 2s and they are great. First ever pair of Nike shoes after always getting either Footjoy or Adidas and I cant fault them. Best shoes I've had.
