Usually play on a public course, lethamhill just outside glasgow. Today it was really in horrible condition, was a bog.
Mount Ellen and crow wood are nearby, 5mins away. Are there any members from there on here? Fancy trying them out sometime - also noticed crow wood have memberships for 21-25 year olds at 275, would be perfect for me...I am tempted

When I was looking for a new course, I rang a few in the area and they gave me a complimentary round to try the course. Worth giving them a ring if you considering it and testing the course first.

Crowwood is a good course and a snip at that price. Greens are very good there.

I grew up playing Mount Ellen and so have a soft spot for it. Pretty short but drains well and greens always in good nick.

Lethamhill has always been a dive, anywhere nearby will be a step up.

Not played either in over 20 years!

Good luck finding your new club and as has been said don't be affraid to ask for a complementary round.

what are the practice facilities like at either?

sounds stupid, but I've only been playing for a year or so, feel a bit wary about joining a club just now while I'm still pretty rotten!

Nothing to speak of at Mount Ellen, just a small putting green.

Not sure about Crowwood.

Thought Crow wood was ok with a nice clubhouse. To be fair probably most parkland courses in the West of Scotland have trouble of some description in winter.

Only time I played Crow Wood we turned up for a uni match against one of the glasgow unis and found out the course was closed because it was too wet, we hadn't been informed and in the end our lot were allowed to play anyway. Seemed a fairly decent layout but as said very wet and looked like it would be quite a normal occurrence there

Mount Ellen is a pitch and put as they say so would give it a wide berth, Crow Wood is also a tad short and as others have said it can get very wet underfoot. Cawder has 2 courses and they are doing s good deal for new members at the moment, worth a try.

Agree with this, really nice club, good facilities and 300 quid 18-24 w/out entrance fee
