me and the old man indoors could do with another weekend away
golfbreaks dont have anything that is floating my boat...anybody got any ideas on where would be a nice couple of courses and reasonable hotel to stay in? Preferably no more than a couple of hours from Edinburgh

all ideas welcome!

;)

Abbotsford Hotel [a golfing hotel] in Ayr with plenty of courses around to check out. Belleisle and Lochgreen are very good local Muni's. Dundonald are doing cheap deals also Kintyre at Turnberry.

Will have a wee peek
already done kintyre and ailsa the other weekend - but have heard good things about Dundonald! ;)

i was up for it Heidi till you said the old man is coming, lol. how about getting on a plane?
am off to spain in may anyway so dont want to go abroad - just fancy spending some money in scotland - keep the economy going ;)

A venue with a couple of nice courses, reasonable hotel, within 2 hours of Edinburg? Don't think there is one!!

I had a nice couple of nights at the Old Course hotel in St Andrews - played the Dukes course. Don't forget your sand wedge if you go there!

I played Dundonald about a fortnight ago and it was in very good condition, especially the greens.
We got on in a £35 deal, I think they are fairly desperate for visitors so there will be good offers available.
I am sure you are aware that it is a pretty tough course, but if you have played Turnberry you should be OK.
I would say that it is a couple of shots tougher than Ailsa.

Interesting wording to the Aberdeen Asset three year sponsorship of the Scottish Open. I had a thought that they might do alternate years at Dundonald and the Moray course Castle Stuart.

If you can stretch the 2 hours slightly then I can recommend Machrihanish Dunes. We stayed in the Ugadale Cottages last year and the standard is high. The hotel is now open and they have some good offers just now.

The Village is across the road from the old course so you could do the Dunes one day and the old ourse on another. Two great courses.

you could do worse than coming to Stonehaven....with the local course hard to beat as a test of a short course with a great links course of Montrose just down the road or parkland like Edzell or Banchory close by

St Andrews, 3 day unlimited golf ticket (every course but Old) for about £150 & some reasonably priced B&Bs.

Gleneagles, Carnoustie, Gullane, think you might be spoilt for choice!!

Stayed at the Rosapenna hotel last year, friendly staff, clean comfortable. Didn't think it too pricey though they did seem to get a lot of coach parties, though not the rowdy sort. Would recommend it, 2hrs drive from Belfast International and closer still to Derry airport.

Playing Montrose next weekend! staying in Arbroath and taking in artesan course

have played Edzell a couple of times - its a grand course!

Next!

The same had crossed my mind... although I'd need to see pics first... I have standards you know!

(albeit very low ones)

Where abouts are you Heidi? I thought you're up Scotland way aren't you? Is there nothing available on Groupon.com?

Bit further out but so worth the travel.

Get down to Machrihanish. The cottages are outstanding. Dunavety is immense currently and The Dunes is coming on. Machrihanish greens are struggling but still worth a game.

Just had the most amazing weekend with the boys.
