The time has come to book the annual family holiday, but this year is a little different as my daughter has now started school.

I have spoken to the school and they have said they would not autohrize holiday but will not fine us for taking holiday during term time.

So looks like its going to be a week in june, during term time.

My partner has left it up to me to choose location and book it. I have found some good deals but before i go one, ive narrowed it down to 3 locations. 1 obvious, 1 place we havent been to, and 1 that we both love but unsure due to the counties stability.

Choice 1 is spain (benidorm or torremolinos)

2 is Crete

3 is Turkey

If it was just me and the mrs it would be Turkey all day long but im not sure about the kids just incase the situation turns bad / worse over there.

Would you guys consider a family holiday to Turkey or should i write it off?

Isn't the obvious choice somewhere in the UK?! We're on hols the week after next and travelling just 2hrs down the road to Northumberland. I absolutely guarantee our kids (4.5 and 1.5 y/o) are going to have 10x more enjoyable experience than when we were all dragged to Italy in May by the in-laws.

I'd swerve Benidorm with kids.

My brother went to Turkey this year and said it was fantastic, there was a visible sercurity presence and he said he never felt uncomfortable there.

We go to Portugal quite a bit and our kids love it. We also go to Cornwall camping and our kids prefer this than going abroad.

We're off to Tenerife today.

Turkey is fantastic, but we've been put off going back for obvious reasons.

Benidorm is a dump.
Spot on for stag do's,but I wouldn't be taking the family.

Why would you take a risk with your family? Just why?

For a young family look at Majorca, Cala d'Or. Just along from Torremelinos is Nerja. Bit nicer, have a look.

Another no for benidorm.

I'm hoping to avoid holidays abroad until the little one is 7 or 8 at least.

I didn't go on my first until 11, holidayed in UK before that.

I just cant see the attraction of it until later as they can have just as much fun and make great memories within these shores.

Id see any location as a risk, look at france this past year. Any place could be a target at any time.

The reason for turkey is price and the quality you get. Been to turkey 4 times before we had the children and never had a bad experience and loved every minute.

Crete is looking at being about £1900 7 nights with flights

Spain about £1700 7 nights with flights

Turkey about £1100 10 nights with flights.

We love cornwall and go yearly as my old dear owns a static van.

We were gutted about not going back to Turkey this year.
The food is amazing.
I'd have been on edge all the time if we did go
So probably wouldn't have enjoyed it.

I disagree,my son is now 8 and we've holidayed abroad since he was 6month old.
He loves it,can't get him out of the pool.

Considering my work mate paid over £5000 for a 2 week holiday mexico for himself, wife and son, and we paid 320 for 4 nights at a haven park, 1100 all inclusive for 2 adult and 2 children is a great deal.
Fair enough, each to there own. Personally I'd rather save the cash, pay off the mortgage quicker and still have a great time on hols!

We had a week in Turkey in July, 2 weeks after the 'coup'. Were were on the south coast miles from any of the big cities and you wouldn't have known there was ever any trouble. Follow the FCO advice and you will have a fantastic holiday.

Have you thought about the Canaries? Have been many times with my young daughter and they are great, no jet lag, almost guaranteed sunshine but a nice breeze to ensure it does not get roasting hot. Yes there are some chav resorts there but there are also some really nice family friendly ones.

If you want to go to Benidorm then just watch the TV series instead. Went near there many years ago and if you are in your teens it is OK, if you are looking for a family holiday I imagine it would be horrendous. Unless you are into hoards of football shirted youths and full English breakfasts everywhere with not a trace of Spanish food or culture. As someone else said, it's basically Blackpool with a bit of sun.

As for Torremolinos then

I don't know about now, but when my kids were wee about 25 years ago, we loved Menorca. The locals were extremely friendly and loved children. Very family orientated and none of the ladish culture that you got in Ibiza or the like.

Snap, took our kids to Cala Milor (may of spelt it wrong) in Majorca. Did all inclusive in a Thompson Family Village. Can not say enough good things about it, kids lived it, food and drinks were really good and accommodation was good as well. 5mins from the beach which was a bonus to.
