Faldo creating news again

All about context... Usual reporting of words making things sound different from the way they were said IMO. I think I'll trust jacks take on thing

It doesn't matter what he does or says Faldo gets critised one way or another. His record isn't to be sniffed at 6 majors, highest point score in Ryder Cup history, the best English golfer this country has produced. He is now an analyst or critic for TV and is there to pass his thoughts and opinions (like we all do on here) sometimes he gets it wrong at times but his knowledge of the game is second to none, a successful course designer and a funny bloke as well. I'm sure it was all in jest and if we held a course record we'd be thinking the same thing if someone was on the verge of breaking it.

Bloke makes joke.. People use joke to character assassinate said bloke.. Pathetic attempt by certain quarters to smear a legend of the game...

This is ridiculous! It's a non story, what a waste of time even reading that, I can't get that back!

Indeed. I expect Tiger wasn't too disappointed when Spieth bogied the 72nd hole so that he didn't break Woods' low tournament record.

Golfer wants his records to remain intact: wow, boogaloo.

Faldo is a self centred idiot. It's hardly news and this just reinforces it
Really?
Strikes me your comment is idiotic.
I have watched Faldo since he was a 20 year old and if your opinion is truly held I feel you are letting personal prejudices cloud your vision.
Homer, disappointed in you .

Faldo was simply having a laugh, whilst also making a serious point - its a tactic that people should try, it works better than simply making your point in a serious way all the time!

ps - What's wrong in being proud of your records, and wanting them to last? - its the same in any walk of life, being remembered for being the best is something to be proud of!

But compare the obvious bitterness Faldo showed about someone threatening some of his records (I understand more than were at risk) to the obvious joy Botham showed when Anderson took his record

Why was it obvious bitterness if people are saying it was said in a jovial manner?

I love Faldo and botham, homer - and for different reasons. The flamboyance and natural talent of botham who just turned up with a hangover, and played like god, to the sheer bloody mindless and doggedness of faldo grinding out 18 pars! Very different characters, but both winners.

so many great sports stars in them days! Daley Thompson, Coe, ovett, Bristow, Higgins, gower, seve, jockey wilson, Jimmy White, maradona, - and all had personality, and charisma that in general seems to be lacking in most of today's sports stars....

And there's the rub. I'm not entirely convinced Faldo would have. I may (probably) be wrong but while Botham had bigged up Anderson all test before he broke the record, Faldo just seemed to want to keep his name in the books whether saying it in a jovial tone or not

not my goal scoring record in the annual second year vs first year football match, when we won 5-0 and I got all 5! id be gutted (just like Nick) if someone beat that record! :)
