Hi all

Desperate to find fairways/hybrids to help counter my slice, ideally ones that are easy to hit off the deck also!

My old Adams Ovation offsets have done a sterling job for many years but are beginning to show their age. I have tried Adams Speedline Super S but these produce a huge banana!!

Any help appreciated, Cheers.

I would look to spend £20-40 (depending on the pro) on sorting the swing out rather than forking out on the clubs. Get the swing path sorted and you can hit it anything without needing a huge offset

Welcome to the forum!

My best advice would be to save your cash for now and either do some research to find out the cause of your slice , books , videos and YouTube are good places to start.

But I think you should talk to a pro ( or get a good recommendation for one ) and get a lesson then work on what you are taught for a month and then book another lesson.
not what you wanted to hear but what you needed to hear IMO

Good luck in curing your slice!

Thanks all.

I am fully aware that my swing plays a MAJOR part in this, but at the same time my natural shot with my irons is a soft draw (can hit a fade if required) and I am able to shape my driver both ways also. With my current fairway woods I am also able to shape it both ways!

I am not going to be spending any money on lessons as I have no desire to complicate my game with 'swing thoughts'. I have not had a lesson since I started playing the game 27 years ago at the age of 5, so I think it is fair to say I know my game and my swing better than anyone else. I probably should have stated this in my opening post.

My aim with this thread was simply to get some advice as to what new/modern clubs might help me achieve the same effect as my aging ones. I am sure people don't intend to be rude/condescending with their replies but simply posting - "These don't produce a huge banana! You produce a huge banana! Get your swing sorted out!" does not help anyone and you'll forgive me if I don't listen to this particular piece of advice from someone who knows nothing about my game and plays off a handicap nearly double mine :P Apologies if this sounds rude but that kind of response only serves to discourage people from posting/joining in on the forums. At the same time I can see how the title of my post may have been misleading and could have included more info. Lesson learnt :-)

Not sure about specifically countering a slice, but Ping G25 fairway woods and hybrids are about as easy to hit and launch as you will ever find IMO.

Well worth a try if you're in the market for new clubs and you're looking for easy to hit & launch.

Surely someone who has been playing for 27 years with a HCP of 4.5 and the ability to shape the ball both ways while knowing there own game and swing better than anyone else especially a load of forumers who have never seen your swing should be able to decide what club would suit them best

No offence But your title sounds like a question a 28 handicapper would ask after struggling with a huge slice for years...

Please see the end of post no7 - "At the same time I can see how the title of my post may have been misleading and could have included more info. Lesson learnt :-) "

I would also point out that like post no2, your unnecessarily snide/borderline aggressive reply is exactly the kind of thing that may deter those who do not use these forums on a regular basis from posting or joining in for fear of their posts being mocked/ridiculed, when all they are looking for is some friendly advice.

Right so you can shape, at will, any club in the bag apart from new hybrids/fairways. Why not reshaft your old ones? Tbh not that much has changed or everyone, in real terms, would have got better and they haven't! As for the slice, this is strange as most low cappers I know complain of stock shafted hybrids being hook machines! All I can think is you have a different swing for these clubs or are compensating within your swing quite a lot with irons/driver etc and cannot translate it to these clubs.
Only way to be sure is book a session with a few to try! It would be difficult to recommend a club with the inconsistencies reported in your shot results!
Don't be put off by other replies that have caused offence but also don't ask for advice and then shoot the first reply down because he is just a single figure hcp not cat 1 like yourself!

If you know your swing you will know how to sort the massive banana out or like you say compensate for it if you don't like the constructive critism don't post or accept that it been a public forum you will get it

What club are you a member of and what handicap are you

I seem to be able to hit FWs and Hybrids straight though! I have played lower (not quite Cat 1 though), but being over 60 ( nearly twice your age?) GIRs are becoming more difficult and chipping has always been a weakness!

Sorry if it seemed unhelpful, but it really is your swing - quite possibly influenced by the Ovations - and maybe their offset. I suspect your 'big banana' is really not the huge slice that term normally portrays!

Depending on their condition, the Ovations are not particularly old either. There are certainly 'old favourites' of the same or older - there are a couple in my bag for example! Part of the reason for that is that, up until a couple of years ago, the FWs and hybrids took a big back seat in most companies to Drivers. Adams was a real innovator for FWs and Hybrids (particularly).

So try latest, or last years, lines of Adams FWs. They are pretty good. And there is an Adams hybrid for every purpose - though many hybrids seem to be a bit Marmie-y and can be hook/slice machines also. Also try other brands and something may just click! If that doesn't work, keep the Ovations - and/or get them refurbed. A 'Watch' on Ebay might turn something up also.

Good Luck. And Welcome btw - at least to posting more than once a year!

I have the same problem and have to use an offset driver , I bought a cobra speed ld driver 5000 inertia thing a few weeks ago and it is brilliant , but like yourself I wanted a newer club so I bought the cobra amp cell offset driver , so to answer you original question there is 1 driver for you to consider

If you are convinced it is nothing to do with your swing then get any one that you can adjust so you can set it to draw mode.

If you hit your irons straight play your hybrid the same way,it's an iron replacement and should be played likea long iron.
I'm still working on the fw but the JPX825 is a peach and can be had cheap.

I will echo the positive comments about the Cleveland Classic xl's but I would also point out that the shafts are very good. The Adams super s shaft is pretty stout and I usually play stiff but was sent a regular by mistake. I gave it a try and it was fine it had enough stability to cope. I don't know what specs you looked at but it's worth finding out as it may help you to find what works.
