fairway mat

Geesus lol, life isn't that serious but I catch your drift. You'll have to try a couple to get the feel, it's one thing hitting a long iron but you might get fussy around the greens.

Not sure how snookster came over serious to you there but hey thats the issue with forums, you cannot convey your intent through tone very well.

I wish some courses with poor fairways in the summer would use mats, all bumpy and cracked, its like playing off a car park.

I got fitted for mine based on my angle of attack, smash factor and shaft flex. And despite what the naysayers might say, it has made a difference, my dispersion is much better and I have gained 3 yards on average.

If your course drains well then you probably don't need mats. At our course the drainage is poor and so to protect the fairways the notice will go up at some point that either mats are used or you hit from the edge of the fairway. Not ideal but if it means the course is protected and better for it come Spring then you have to accept it. Personally, I can't be fagged carrying a mat so I go to the edge of the fairway. That it a good test as it means you have to attack the flag from different angles. Good practise.

Edit: use the smooth side and put your ball on one of the little holes. You get a perfect lie every time and mega spin on wedge shots. I don't really like using them, but it's better than no golf.

Yup, and as you get older, you can manipulate a little bulge in the front of the mat that allows you to use your driver from anywhere on the course...:D
