Just watching the golf on Sky when up pops a trailer for next week's F1 Grand Prix.

I have watched F1 previously on The Beeb years ago and still the odd time now too when I channel-hop onto it, and as part of my Sky Sports Pack I have it 'thrown in for free'. However in 2 or possibly 3 years (is it now?) of having this bonus I have never once tuned in.

The drivers and teams are undoubtedly highly skilled in what they do, but I find the whole thing spectacularly boring if being honest.

All seems so very predictable and outside the settings, the glamour and glitz there's not a lot else in it for me. The race itself is pretty boring.

Seems I'm missing something... but just what is it exactly?

I'm prepared to be educated. I am.... honestly.

I don't get the joke either and I'm with you on the F1. Used to like it years ago when the championship was closer between drivers from different teams. Now it just seems it's a matter of which driver from one team is going to win. The best races are when there is rain half way through. Then it does get exciting with them all trying to time their stops to get out ahead of the others.

Obviously it is interesting but for me, as a competitive sporting event, it is Moto GP every time.

As an example just compare last week's two races.

In Malaysia Vettel & Ferrari did a great job and beat Mercedes but largely due to pit-stop/tyre strategy.

In Qatar Rossi on his Yamaha won a fantastically close race against Dovizioso on a resurgent Ducati literally on the line.

Compared as races there was no comparison and this is usually the case.

They could save a lot of time and money if they timed each team changing tyres and awarded first place to the quickest.

No doubt the drivers are highly skilled but I can't say F1 excites me anymore.

Used to be involved and ardently watch both trackside and on TV when it was broadcast. Unfortunately when the Ecclestone, Herd and Mosely trio carved it up and it became focussed on the money.

Track tickets are too expensive as is everything on-site. Since the money involved is too high to take risks team strategy wins races which then, IMO, makes the track activities a boring parade.

As F1 chases the money more races will gravitate to China.

never watch F1 for decades,no interest in procession of cars full of adverts, very little action compared to touring cars or super bikes, dont class it as a sport really.

Pretty much agree with this - if you want to see overtaking, watch motorcycling.

Some of the F1 interest has even been contrived/manufactured - DRS is an example. Though it's great to see that decisions made in practice/qualifying have a knock on effect in the race proper. That was the case in Malaysia. I prefer it when there's some rain involved, as this rather destroys the carefully calculated team strategies and makes the 'on-the-fly' decisions a lot more important.

Still watch even though I can lean a bit too much on the "back in the day" mode...

Not necessarily happy to but willing accept my criticism of Vettel may have been misplaced and it looks like he could prove a thorn in side to Mercedes... Looking forward to see how that pans out...

MotoGP was a little mundane, much of last year, most of the 'action' happening in Moto2 and Moto3... Ducati's upturn in performance looking good... Though that might evaporate as some the rules giving them the advantage become unavailable to them... WSB only looking good 'cos Brits are at the top of the pile at present...

I like watching the BTCC - that's great fun

MotoGP is good but F1 is dull

Fair comment although when Marquez was winning it was rarely as processional as F1.

WSB does not really do it for me as like BSB it is just glorified production racing.

F1 is a spectacle, an event but not really a sport any more.

I'm another who much prefers MotoGP but it's on the wrong channel nowadays so can't watch it.

F1 is a car park borefest.

Touring cars though - which is on the Beeb as I type is exciting and fun to watch.

Haven't watched F1 for many a long season. Prefer touring cars. Off to Thruxton with the father in law in May. He used to race mini's back in the 70's and still a racing nut and so treating him for his birthday including paddock passes

Qatar was an amazing race just a shame so few people are getting to see it live with BT sports having the sole rights.

I've got into WSBK and BSB a lot more over the past couple of years with some of the races being absolutely epic.
I watch F1 but not as much as I used to.
