Just been watching the highlights of the world cup at Melbourne on Eurosport. On the greens, I noticed that some players were using putters with extremely long shafts that almost came up to their chins. Is there a technical reason for using putters like that or is it just what some players prefer? I'm wondering if they might give better control or something.

I take it you missed the whole anchoring of broom handle and belly putters with only joining recently?

The anchoring of the putters is also being banned in the next rules change. The can still use the longer putters, but can't anchor them to the body.
