Teed off today at 7 in the am with 3 friends for a casual game. Been looking forward to it for a few days and the weather was perfect other than a bit of wind. Plus we were 1st on the course so was feeling good. Well, until I hit my drive off the 1st tee into the river. I then lost another 5 balls on the next two holes. I scored decently (for me) on holes 4-9 but was playing poorly (duffing some, topping others). I decided to sack off the back 9. This wasn't a petulant, toys out of the pram decision. I just wasn't feeling it. Must admit I also had one eye on getting some coupons put on and getting to the pub prior to the Boro match which may have influenced my decision. Starting to regret not doing the back 9 now though as never bailed on a round before.

Anyone else just not "felt" it before?

I think I'd be a little miffed if somebody I had arranged to play a game with walked off after 9 just because he was playing poor and wanted to get to the pub.

I've done it a couple of times, one in a medal that was getting slower and slower as it was getting hotter and hotter. After 10 holes it was 2 hours 35 min and we're still standing on the 11th tee. Everyone was going about as if it was a funeral. I dont mind people taking their time, but they need to pay attention to whats going on behind them. All three of us walked in and I dont regret it one bit.

No Mather how poor your round is going, never give up, instead try different approach in club selection or grip/swing.
the other day I had problems chipping and I bring my puting swing and grip (the easiest and most natural swing everybody can do)
to it and it was flawless!

Walked off twice. Once at Halifax when it was blowing a gale and bucketing down. The three of us just looked at each other on the 7th tee and we all knew. Other time was at Ecclestone Park. Besides the course being a cow field with electricity pylons running through it the pace of play was shocking. Played 5 holes in 2 and a bit hours and just got fed up with waiting. Don't regret either.

Turned up for a 36 hole scratch comp despite just getting over a nasty illness and struggled for about ten holes of the first round before admitting I just wasn't physically up to it. Picked up but continued round marking the card of my FC. Then, obviously, didn't go out for round 2.

Only regret was that I tried to play instead of calling off completely.

Yep, quite a few times over the years I expect, some from injury, some from weather and some from slow play. Last time was playing a singles knockout match and we got to the turn in a shade under 3 hrs, despite being in front I was done for, shook oppos hand, wished him well in the rest of the comp and went and had a nice cold beer!

Not done it. I posted on here that I came close to tears of frustration once (not so long ago) but stuck it out to the bitter end as I was marking a card. My problem with it, do it once and it can be the start of a slippery slope.

36 holes County Champs this year. Had a nasty mossy bite infection which I managed for 28 holes whilst going downhill! Finished my last hole somehow having puked up twice and just about able to stand up. FC and one of their caddies persuaded me to call it a day but was gutted as hate quitting anything (once finished a marathon on a broken tibia)!

I did try golf about 15 years ago and hated being so rubbish at it. Played the 1st hole at Delapre going from side to side, hitting it rubbish and didn't finish the hole. Walked off, chucked the clubs and didn't pick one up again for over 10 years!

Yep done it a few times, usually because of slow play. I know it's not a race but I just don't understand how people think 5 hours for a round of golf is acceptable.

Only once that hasn't been forced by weather (or darkness). All 3 of us NR-ed in a comp after the 14th - which is next to the clubhouse. Front 9 had been fine (just under 2 hours) but it had taken a further 2 hrs 15 to get 14th green.

Once, many years ago.
I was playing The Isle Of Purbeck golf course whilst on holiday. I was playing on my own with Mrs. Slime as my caddy.
I hit a drive, I think it was about the fourth hole, which rolled under a bush & when I got there I saw my ball next to a rabbit. The rabbit was staring at me through two of the saddest eyes I've ever seen!
Half it's face was missing & it's back legs were horribly deformed, obviously due to myxomatosis.
A four iron to the back of the head & it was quickly despatched & taken to a painfree place ................... and that was me done for too. I just didn't fancy playing after that.

Slime.

Especially if it was a Boro game

Ive walked off the course once, it was just a bounce game with 2 lads from work. I just couldnt hit anything at all. It settled down for a couple of holes, then again i was duffing it. I felt like i was holding me mates back, so just walked off at the 11th and drove home

Walked off, with all of the 3 ball, once for slow play. 3hrs to the turn - not played the course since. Walked off many times for very bad weather but only with the agreement of all of the group.... I don't mind staying out to mark a card if someone wants to stay out but my clubs will stay in the bag but I'll stay under the 'brolley.

Felt like it during the midweek medal this week, other time when playing with mates. Slow play being the culprit. Anything over 2 hours for 9 holes is terrible and i lose all interest. Glad i stuck at it with the medal however as the back 9 really quickened up as the course opened and i played excellent (for me).

I've walked off a few times due to me playing like a mong, dont see the point in carrying on when your swing isn't recoverable. however, I would only ever walk off in a minimum 3 ball. If i'm playing that bad in a 2 ball then I stick it out. Cant leave a buddy to play on his own

Walked off today after 9. Weather was honking and was feeling miserable. Wasn't playing too badly either. FC walked in too.

In fact, most people walked in after 9- will be surprised if many people hand in full cards today.

4 times.
Once in a Stableford competition at Crowborough. I had 1 point after 4 holes and proceeded to lose 2 balls of the 5th tee. Walked off, but got a big bollocking the following week for doing so.
Once in a 36 hole medal at Princes. Bloody slow. Painfully slow. It was 7pm and we'd just reached the 10th tee in the 2nd round. I could see we weren't going to get finished before it got dark. So I legged it.
Once at The Addington during a forum meet. My leg was really hurting, and I limped off.
Last time was at Woodhall Spa last year. Pissing down with rain, I didn't want to even start but got "press ganged" into it! Walked off after 5 holes. I was 5 down to Nashie and hadn't even got my putter out.
