I thought this may be interesting.

Have you ever had a major strop on the golf course?

You get the picture, you're having a bad round, poor shot after poor shot. The 125 yard par 3, you take your stance, waggle then proceed to top the ball sending it scuttling off to the right for 30 yards.

Have you ever launched a club with frustration?
Resorted to a barrage of expletives or simply muttered under your breath?

I came very close to launching a club but stopped myself just in time. Bad etiquette aside I just gained self control before I lost it.

I've hit the ground with my club before, not that I'm proud of it . Can't remember exactly why, something to do with cocking up an absolutely brilliant drive through missing the green out of bounds, when I was having a bad round anyway. It was only like a hard drop though, I've never turned and started laying into the fairway like an axe man yielding a chopping implement.

Last year, Friday of Open week at Letham Grange, my nemisis "Dormie" was slaughtering me and I took a right huff. Didn't speak to anyone for about 6 holes. Knew at the time I was being a prat  , but I couldn't help myself. I was just SO ANGRY with my own performance that I though that it was better not to say anything at all. I apologised later in the day after a few beers at the Open and we had a bit of a laugh about it, but it wasn't a laughing matter at the time.

Footage from the day below....

I have let loose the odd loud expletive followed by a rapid apology to my playing partners. Never thrown a club or smashed one into the ground.

I HAVE thrown clubs. You stop doing it when you see others doing it and they look like t*****s. Golf is a frustrating game and I'm willing to forgive the odd swear word etc. or the driver banged on the ground.

Holds head in shame. :D

2 years ago. Boat of Garten Golf Club. Fourball with 3 close mates.

Tight, tight fairways, couldn't hit a thing and when it got to the stage I was missing the fairways with a 5 iron off the tee I lost the plot. Chunked a pitch from 40 yards and threw my club into the trees further than I'd hit the ball.

Genuinely ashamed at being such bad company that day but it was the worst round of golf I've played since. Had an 80 at Nairn the day before with 39 putts and 2 lost balls and the sheer frustration of the game finally got to me. Have calmed down since....I think....but it's usually a slow simmer with me.

I played with a guy once who crashed his driver into the side of his golf bag after a poor tee shot only to realise it wasn't HIS bag but his doubles partners. Luckily for him nothing was damaged.

I once chucked a 5 iron into the trees on the 3rd at Hamilton after putting my ball ob and was asked if I wanted to throw a provisional?

I was a bit of a club chucker as a youngster but was soon brought to book by my playing partners and the committee. I get frustrated now because I recall how good I was as a youngster and know the game is in there but that it will never come out to that level again.

I still mutter the odd expletive but I am getting much better. Been trying the Tiger 10 second rule and it is working. I have had two stablefords in the mid 20's recently and after a bad first nine would have lost interest but now I am trying to grind out a score on every hole.

Hope for old dogs yet

Very guilty - I have shouted out expletives - at myself, thrown clubs into fields and bushes (lost 3) smashed bag, didn't finish hole - you name it I have done it. People have stared but to be honest I dont give a sh"£. Dont do it anywhere near the clubhouse or if someone is about to play a shot but I do get red mist. Never against anyone else tho. I have learnt to calm down a bit now - I now carry an "anger" ball. Its a crap thing that when I feel frustrated I find a secluded spot near a wood and smash it into the wood. Makes me feel better. My mate is also getting me into thinkin to myself "better than being at work". Read the article in GM on anger management - guilty!Girlfriend asks why I play if I get so frustrated - I just shake my head.

Very guilty I'm afraid. Have effed & blinded, and chucked clubs. A mate very kindly climbed a tree to retrieve a driver once. Doesn't matter that you know you're being a t*t when you're doing it. Think I'm getting the better of it now - tends just to be an AARRRGGGGHHH rather than expletives. Not so long since, when I first broke 90 on a "proper" course (& broke it well if I may say) I took the regular witnesses to dinner to say thank you for putting up with the previous tantrums - which I think waa appreciated

I am quite a heart on the sleeve, passionate, emotional and explosive guy. My friend was commented that my mums milkman must have been Italian!!! I have sworn profusely, I have thrown clubs, I have hit the deck with clubs and I have blamed the "fecking birds again" a la Father Jack for making too much noise, but now I don't.

I think the general consensus is that we do it, realise that it makes us look like a right C U Next Tuesday and then we stop.

Now I just tend to laugh it off through very gritted teeth.

Never been a club thrower but very adept at accidentally falling over or (worse) falling down slopes on golf courses usually causing myself physical damage and my playing partners to laugh themselves out of any strop or potential strop.

never been tempted to throw anything and always stopped myself bashing the clubs. a few expletives but strangely last time out the strongest used was 'cods' - odd that as I have never previously used it. mind you the amount of venom that can be invested in the mildest word . . .

Wow! A lot of angry men on here! Never thrown a club or a strop. At worst, it's an internal swear (with the occasional external 'oh ffs') and then it's gone.

It's a bygone, let it be! The course will beat you up enough as it is, why waste energy beating yourself up as well?

My problem is when I am playing with partners who cannot tell when to leave it alone. I think I am quite atuned to when to say nothing about a bad shot and when a joke is acceptable but others are not. My wife is a prime case who still makes a joke when she can see the steam coming out of my ears as I try and maintain self control and wonders why I do not laugh along with her.

No but I usually take my step son playing on a weekend, when he is playing bad and gets a strop on (and when he does I know he is going to get worse and this often happens) and the course is busy, he tops every shot and see him like that I could throttle him after I have tried to calm him and give him words of advice (which go ignored) though if that counts.

I have never thrown a club, I know I need to focus on my next shot and over come the last one to progress. the old saying "A bad workman blames his tools" is quite apt.
