With Tianlang Guan getting his collar felt by the course Police yesterday, and the regular comments on here regarding slow play in general. As the last slow play penalty in the States was handed out in 2010. Has anyone on here actually been told to speed up or seen groups in front told to speed up by a course Marshall or even by other players behind?

My only experience of this was at the Golf processing plant otherwise known as Oceanico in Portugal, admittedly our 4 ball had slipped a little to the group in front who were putting their bags down at the next Tee as we played our second shots, behind us a three ball were steaming up like it was a Grand Prix they had a hole and a half on the group behind them if not more. So rapid was their closing of us down and seeing the massive gap behind them, we very quickly decided to let them overtake us, and whoosh they were gone. 2 minutes later from no where a Marshall pulls up and tells us to play faster. We stayed in touch with this group in front and yet the Marshalls kept popping up telling us to play faster when we couldn't! This might of course been a commercial hurry up rather than an actual one.

Course Marshall in Spain sped past me on a buggy to get groups ahead to speed up. Without much success but he did make two groups let me play through (thankfully or I'd still be out there I reckon) the second of which were none too happy about it despite me being a single player waiting every shot and a clear course ahead of them!

The marshalls are a nightmare in Portugal - when i played there, our 3 fourballs were constantly being told to speed up. But they had given us buggies saying that we could drive on a lot of the fairways, when in fact we couldnt. we'd have been much faster walking rather than the nonsense of parking, choosing some clubs, walking to the ball etc etc

Only told once in spain to speed up - I managed to argue that we were lost (we couldnt find the 10th tee anywhere!)

Never seen a marshall on any course in the UK...and there's a few rounds where they were definitely needed

I got told by an old boy 2 holes behind to get a move on, I was playing with two ladies and he was shouting whilst they were teeing off. Problem was the old boys in front of us who were playing their 3rd shots in range of my first, but they would not call us through because their was an issue with ladies etc...
Generally my course is really hot on pace, to the point people are charging around. There also a lot of blind brows and you have to be patient and wait even when you cannot see whether they have cleared. I dunno but I have the suspicion that if I ever hit one of these peeps they would sue me silly ...

Never

I did get some funny looks once after our match was waved through two matches on one hole.
We were then placed nearly two holes behind the matches in front, to those waiting it must have seemed that we had caused the delay, we soon caught them up.

Once. A Colonel Blimp playing in the group behind, 4 ball, sped up to us on his chariot and told one of the guys to get a move on. We had nowhere to go, as did the group in front. He was a damn nuisance speeding around various groups with the same message. I dare say the group he was with would have preferred him to be ready to play his own shot.

In the Pros day a couple of years back at my old course the handicap secretary come up to our three ball and told us to speed up, much to the annoyance of my playing partners. Managed to keep my head while the other two lost theirs and shot my best score to date shooting a 81 to win the comp outright.

Only been told to speedup once, by a marshal at the belfry, I was having a nightmere. In my defence I had let the group behind through on 8 ;)

The marshal was apologetic when he realised we was slow, we had just move one slot back

Twice, once where we had nowhere to go, and once where we were slow! We caught up though.

I took my brother to Gog Magog golf club near me few years ago for his birthday. It has probably the two best courses around Cambridge. We paid our fees and was told to go when we were ready as it was fairly quiet. We got to the 1st tee and there was a fourball match playing the 18th green nearby.Little did we know that they had started on the 10th and were expecting to continue uninterrupted onto the 1st.When we suggested that as a two ball it would be beneficial if we went first, one member (male about 50) from the home club was not happy, though his playing partner and the other clubs duo were more than happy to let us go.We certainly felt we were being hurried along without so far hitting a ball!
Now for the good bit-my brother got on the tee and was taking some practice swings. He addressed his ball and just before he took the club away, this total prat bawled"come on."
I am usually pretty patient and tolerant, but did I want to wrap my driver round this guys neck! His playing partners were very embarrassed.
I politely requested that he refrain from making such comments and give us some respect whilst teeing off. Did not follow up with the club, but probably should have.

I've been told to speed up by a course Marshall. Apparently we were holding up play yet at the time we were standing in the middle of the fairway waiting for the green to clear, as we had done for the last 5 holes. I asked the marshal where he expected us to go and he just drove off in his buggy

Nope never been asked.

First medal for me at new club today and pleasantly surprised to see committee members driving around in buggy to ensure good pace of play . Played in 3's and around in 3 hrs 40. Also around 170 in field and we were middle of the pack.
