I was playing at the magnificent Cleveland golf course at Redcar on Sunday and came closest I've ever been to getting hit by a wayward shot. It was so windy I couldn't hear the guys frantic shouts and looked up to see a ball land in front of me and bounce over my shoulder missing my head by a couple of inches. A mate of mine hit a bloke on the tenth tee full on the knee after we teed off on the first and I swear as we came up the tenth later the bloke was making his way up the 18th looking like he was learning to walk for the first time. Kudos to him for his determination !

Yes. Bloke teed off on our 3rd and I was still putting the club away from playing my second from the fairway. One bounce and caught me flush between the shoulder blades. I went down in pain and he eventually sauntered down with the "sorry didn't think you were in range" line. I was only about 230 yards off the tee. Reported it (nothing done - quelle surprise) and made a half arsed apology in the 19th which got short shrift from me and most of my playing partners.

Yes, on the chest from a shot with a hybrid some 80 yards away, I ended up with a bruise the size of a dinner plate. I had a narrow escape last week when my brother miss hit his shot and the ball narrowly missed my head and again yesterday when an eejit waiting to play behind us barely waited until we were 5 steps off the green, sliced his shot and very very nearly sliced us!

No, but I came very close last year when my cousin and I were playing Fuertaventura Golf Club in the Canaries. We were playing the 18th hole, where the tee is on top of a high hill, and were both on the right hand side of the fairway when an idiot drove off from the tee. His ball missed me by about a foot ... there was no call and, when we looked back, it was clear that he still hadn't seen us!

Rule 1. Never, ever stand in front of Fragger when he's addressing the ball - even when you're 30 yards in front and 30 yards left....

I've been hit on the back of the head from one of my PP's. Luckily he is terrible and it was a badly struck 7 iron. Had loads of near misses as well. Most recently I was leaning up against a small tree, about 3 inches wide and i heard a ball smash into the tree about head height. Would have caught me right on the side of head if not for the tree!

i was stood directly to the side facing my pp as he teed off. he somehow hit the ball perpendicular and caught me clancing blow in between the eye's.

when i woke up...... he was still laughing whilst trying to apologise. also made a massive dent on the underside of the club. i mean, how does one hit the ball on the underside of the club (just beneath the toe)

Not me, but my wife. Copped a mis-hit ball in her calf about 10m from the tee. The bruise took eight weeks to subside and a year later she still has a hard patch where it hit.

Guess which idiot was swinging the club :o

She did finish the round though.

Other than minor stuff, I've been hit 3 times properly.

The first was a guy hitting it sideways out of the woods, without informing us, and it hit me dead centre in the middle of the back. Oooof!

The second was from a sliced tee shot from the next tee, at the side of the dog-leg par 5 that I was about to play my 3rd shot into. I heard the shout (and more importantly saw the hand pointing at me from about 120 yards away) and dropped and spun away - it caught me sideways on, in the thickest part of my jaw bone, and stunned me to the ground - an inch higher it would have been my teeth, an inch lower my throat, so I felt pretty lucky! The guy who hit me was white-faced and more shook up than I was. I eventually got up and made par! ;)

The last time was quite funny if you can forget the bruise that developed over the next few days. I was on a par 3 green and heard a shout and again turned away. I heard a single bounce from the drive and then the pain at the top of my thigh from a full impact. After a quick dance (and a few words) we looked to see where the ball had gone to, but no sign of it. Well, not until I put my hand in my right pocket that is!

Once in the chest - shank from an adjacent practice area. Bounced once so didn't hurt too bad.

Closest to a real baddie was few years ago, I wasn't paying attention to how one if our group played their shot and I walked forward after he'd hit. 20-30s later his flush 3wood when straight over my shoulder - swear it whistled by missing my skull by a couple of inches from all of 40yards. He'd duffed his first and not bothered to check the coast was clear before hitting it again. My playing partner, white as a sheet, saw the whole thing but shouted too late...could have been very nasty indeed - I almost walked right into it...

Had a shout this evening and I crouched behind my bag. Ball landed about 2 feet away with a this and bounced up brushing my trouser leg. Closest I've come. My dad was hit in the face once and was lucky not to have been blinded.

Got hit in the chest by Jarmo Sandelin during the English Open ( I think) at Forest of Arden in the 90's.
A par 4 (11th I believe) involves a walk back from the 10th green. The caddies walk up to driving distance and leave the players to it.
I went with them, outside the roles of course.
Jarmo drives and the ball starts to fade towards me.
I've got the line and I've judged it perfectly until it pitches, kicks right and slams into my sternum!
It then bounces dead behind a tree.
His caddy advises that Mr Sandelin isn't in the best of moods, being several over par already, and it might be an idea to vacate the area before said Pro arrives.

Twice.
Standing in the middle of the fairway on Crowborough's 2nd hole. Guy nuts one off the tee and we hear it bounce behind us, it hit me on the foot. That hurt I can tell you....:mad::mad:

Again at Crowborough, on the 8th hole. Mate of mine was playing out from under some pine trees up the LH side of the fairway. I was standing at right angles to him and he hit the most awful shank I have ever seen. Came flying out at 90 degrees and hit me on the left arm. That was quite painful too.

Twice, once in the wedding tackle, thankfully the ball hit a golf bag first and deflected into me, so not on the full but still put me on the ground for a few good minutes.

Second time was on the back of my head, my mate had put one into the water by the green, so said he would have a fish about while we finished putting out, anyway he shouted out he found it so I said to drop it down and to have a practice chip.

3 of us on the green waiting and yet no one saw the chip (60-65 yards ) in flight, at the last moment I turned my head ( thankfully) to look for it on the green when it struck me on the back of my head, I hit the deck out cold.

Came round a good 30-40 seconds later with everybody around me telling me to stay still, I can remember seeing and hearing, a lady running from another fairway shouting " I'm a doctor ..I'm a doctor stay still "

Had a wee sit down but did carry on the round ( against her advice) as I was feeling ok, sore head the next day
