There have been a few threads lately slating the tour but today is one of the reasons it is still a great Tour.

A tournament being played on a great, great golf course that is set up to test....not golf darts.

Good to watch.

The winner will have to have a good all round game as this course is certainly giving them a test in the breezy conditions. Good to watch and says a lot that M A J is currently in the lead, a steady old head needed to do well out there.

Yip , agreed. The course really only rewards great shots with birdie chances and punishes bad ones with bogeys. Hopefully be a tight finish!

For me all the tournament should be hard and won on 3 to 6 under.rubbish when it's 20 under.every week it should be a test.where the best shots get rewarded and the bad ones don't.

Well, the old head came through n the end. Good weekends viewing for the armchair golfer. Shows just what pressure can do to the guys at the top of the leaderboard as Sunday afternoon progresses.

Superb viewing.

I have played the course a couple of times and it was as tough as old boots from the normal tees so you can imagine what it's like off the back pegs with the greens stimping and the rough up!!!

So pleased for the old fella.

The tour will always be a great tour, however when the chief exec of the tour starts using the words feeder etc for the PGA tour it promotes the wrong image. We need more tournaments in the UK the one at Wentworth isn't enough coupled with the Scottish and Welsh open. Another big event in the UK would help promote the game over here.

Yes agree this is what the tour should be about, national open, good field, tough course rewarding good play. Nice mix in the run in and play off too, a crowd favourite, a young gun and a tour stalwart.

I'm 99% there with you, it does get dull watching them bomb it anywhere and still get a shot. However just a little tweak around the greens to give them that teeny bit more control and demonstrate their skills would have made it perfect. Couldn't have been a better winner tho!!

Well until last year we had TheJohny Walker Championship at Gleneagles and The Dunhill Links is an annual fixture on the card. Free entry to the Dunhill must do a lot to bring in new followers. I've certainly seen plenty of school groups at Gleneagles as the powers that be do all they can to introduce youngsters to this great game.

Really enjoyed watching a bit of the coverage this weekend. Great looking course which was different and made for an excellent, close competition. Helps to have a charismatic winner of course... :)

Bigger picture, I think the Euro tour just has to hang in there riding out what is a 'golf recession' with a numbers of participants reducing and sponsorship harder to secure. The Asian element is really valuable and will sustain the tour through these tough times. We only have to look to a nervous US which, being so $$ driven, is competing constantly with all the other sports for TV time and advertising revenue. Heaven help them if their number one draw fails to recover properly from injury and win consistently. Interestingly, folks over the pond seem to love watching the Euro coverage so I'd argue it shouldn't be a feeder and should be proud of what it is.
